I think he and Catherine (Crawford) were married in Frederick, MD, (1797) but have been totally unsuccessful in finding any bond / license there. Would you please check your Botetourt County Marriages 1770 - 1853 Vol 1 by John Vogt to see if any Rogans are listed? Their first through sixth child was born in Botetourt --- Dec. 1797 to May 1806. Many thanks. Lucy
Judge George E. Honts died about 11 am on Tuesday, march 23 at Lewis Gale Hospital of a massive brain hemorrage. He was 64 years of age and was to retire from the bench at the end of June. He served the circuit court of Rockbridge and Botetourt counties for over 20 years and was a well beloved and respected jurist. Those that worked with him called him a "true" gentleman and fair in his judgements, always considering the person along with the crime. Honts was an avid genealogist and several of his books traced his Botetourt county ancestors including the Brughs and the Honts. His research papers are in the Botetourt Library. His step-mother, Emily Honts, founded the Rockbridge Historical Society and was its president for many years. She passed away within the last year as well. He will be missed by all his friends and cousins, both near and far. Visitation is today, March 24th at Radar Funeral Home in Daleville from 2-4 and this evening. His funeral will be at St. Marks Episcopal Church in Fincastle tomorrow, Thursday, March 25th at 2 p.m. and he will be buried in Godwin Cemetery in Fincastle not far from the Circuit Court House where he served. Would anyone happen to know where and what year Andrew McClure died and if so where is he intered. Quoting from the obit: "It is hard to write the obituary of ANDREW MCCLURE, who died on the morning of the 9th inst. at his residence in this county, in the 56th year of his age." I'm guessing about 1850 - 1870 as the other obits in this scrapbook are from that time frame. At any rate I have his obit, with no date or paper name. PLEASE Just delete it and hopefully it will go away. I have him on the reject list. THIS is being handled by Rootsweb and ADMIN., and doesn't need to be discussed to death. Thank you Rena List ADM.
Rootsweb (or Ancestry) gateways any message on the board to this list. Meaning, that anything I post there, shows up over here. It is not uncommon for spammers to post messages on the boards like this. Unfortunately that means it shows up on the lists too. Spammers *never* give their real e-mail address. When I went to the Botetourt message list it was already deleted. It's interesting, though, that Ezekiel and Dolly removed to bath county for the 1860 census, then they went to Alleghany County for the remainder of their lives (as far as I know). I don't have a date of death for Ezekiel or for Dolly. So did all of Dolly and Thomas' children marry in Botetourt County, also? Ezekiel is my third great-grandfather, and his first wife, Matilda Sizer is my third great-grandmother.

From marriage reports and census records I've got my line back to Joseph and Elizabeth (I'm not sure about her last name it could possibly be Plymale??). Their birthplaces are listed as Va. on the census report for Pike Co., Ky. for 1850. Best guess for year of birth would be 1813 for Joseph and Elizabeth's would be 1818. Their oldest daughter Nancy was born in Va., all their other children's place of birth are listed as Ky. Nancy was born abt 1834. They would possibly been married in 1834 or 1833. If Joseph in the son of Stephen Rowe as I surmise, then they would have been aruond the New River area of (W) Va., when they got married. The information I have goes back to James Rowe born 1753 in Culpepper Co., Va. I believe I go back to James, but perhaps not the branch I think. The Rowe's had a bad habit of naming the children the same name. Each brother may have a James, Joseph, Thomas, or John born only m! onths apart from each other. I would greatly appreciate any help. Thanks in advance... Bubby Rowe
Thanks Rena Dottie did so much for everyone and was quick to answer letters that I wrote her about 20 years ago about my Kessler line. She assured me at that time we were not related and sent me information that started me on my hunt for the correct family. There was so much confusion as to the wife of our John Kessler and for years she was listed as Mary McCray until we found a McCray researcher in Ohio about 15 years ago that was able to show proof that his John and Mary McCray Kessler moved to OH and were buried there. We then knew this could not be our John since ours died in Botetourt in 1850. Thus our search began and we have since proved our John KESSLER m. 1794 Frederick Co., MD Nancy WASKEY and came with the Waskey family to Rockbridge Co., VA and ending up on Catawba Creek, Botetourt Co. Children of John and Nancy Waskey Kessler married the following lines: RAY, BEANE/BEAN, BUTT, HAMILTON, BIERLY, DOOLEY with connections to AMMEN, PECK, MAYS, LEMON, NOFFSINGER, HOILMAN, FALLS, SIMMONS, HESLIP, CUST ER, HUFF, AUSTIN, SHOWALTER, Nice talking to you again. I haven't been too active lately. My husband had heart bypass surgery in Dec and I have moved my Mother with us for total care, so I've had my hands full. Hi Rena Just a quick question about the Kessler Collection you mentioned below. I am assuming you are referring to the two volume set, "Out From The Blue Ridge" by Morris and Dean Kessler. If there is another collection of works on the Kessler line would you let me know? My John Kessler, through DNA testing, has shown no connection to the John Kessler mentioned in the two volume set although in Part II of Volume I, Morris Kessler did devote a section to my "John Kessler of Catawba." Since Volume I was printed in 1984 we have been able to add a great deal of information to the John Kessler of Catawba Creek, Botetourt Co. family. I am always willing to share/exchange any information on my family.
