Can anyone help with Angeline Crawford? She was born about 1815 in Rockbridge Co Va..She married Ansalem C Clements in 1832 in Amherst. They later moved to Botetourt Co. Va. In the 1820 Amherst Co. Va census, there is a John & James Crawford on the same census page as John Hilliard Clement's, who was the father of Ansalem. One of them may be the father of Angeline. Both of her parents were said to be born in Rockbridge.James was listed as a witness to the marriage of Angeline and Ansalem ( Ansil).I have some Clements info but nothing on the Crawfords.I have info on only two of the children of Angeline and Ansalem. They are Sarah Elizabeth and Nannie Mildred.I have been unable to find anything on the other eight children. Angeline was a lock keeper on the canal. It appears Ansalem died before 1860.She did not remarry. It looks like they went to Boteoturt county with Richard Stinnett who married Elizabeth Clements and Joseph Carter who married Belsors (Sarah) Lavender, before 1850. I am still trying to find the parents of Elizabeth Clements who married Richard Dewey Stinnett, Sr.She was born about 1800 and the married about 1819. I will be greatfull for any help on any of the names above.I am willing to share Stinnett and Clement's information. Jackie [email protected]

TROUTT, Elizabeth Field Elizabeth (Lib) Field Troutt, born November 26, 1923, passed away on Tuesday, March 30, 2004 in Roanoke, Virginia. Lib was recuperating from hip surgery at Friendship Manor Rehab and doing really well. The doctors attribute her death to a blood clot or heart failure. Troutt; two daughters, Jeffrie Troutt Shrader and her husband, Ray M. The earlier the year, the harder it is to find specific birth dates. Baptism dates narrow it down, if there are any in Augusta/Botetourt that early. For men, one of the best ways I've found is when they show up on the personal property tax list -- that indicated they had become adults. If their father died while they were young, sometimes the court records will state their age. Or you can tell the age by when they no longer have a guardian. Look at the 1800, 1810, 1820 census and figure a general date from their age there. Find when they got married and figure a general date from that. Work all of those together and see where they overlap -- that's the possible birth date. Good hunting, Lynne Hundley Oh, another one. If their father gave consent for their marriage, they were under age. If he didn't, they were adult. You can figure when they were born from that: "bef. 1769" or "aft. 1785", for instance. With women it's much the same, except a little harder because they don't show up on the personal property list, unless they are widowed. And they aren't named on the census. So you have to use several records in a row and figure out which unnamed person they were. When you figure it out the best that you can, you list their birth date as "abt. 1767" or "bet. 1764-1768" and give your rationale, something like: "based on age at 1820 census and date of marriage." > Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can find birth dates for > children born in Botetourt County in the period 1766 to 1778? > > Larry Milnes > > > ==== VABOTETO Mailing List ==== > The Botetourt Co, VAGenWeb site is located at URL > http://www.rootsweb.com/~vaboteto/botetot.htm >

HI Folks, Shepherd and Sara Pollard are buried on what was their property behind where their house stood. Because Shepherd was a confederate veteran we are working with the Fincastle Rifles[ CSV ] to get him a head stone and plan to buy one for Sara as well. The property is part of the watershed at Carvins Cove and the property now belongs to Roanoke county. Dose anyone foresee a problem with the county over marking the now unmarked graves and maybe fencing them off to keep the mountain bikes off them. I assume this will require permission from the county. The other thing is there such a thing as registering them as a cemetery with the county to possibly afford some legal protection for them? I was told there was a church down in the bottom of that valley does anyone know the name of it and it's denomination. We'd be interested in finding out which pastor performed the services. Thanks for any help you can give. Doug Pollard
