    3. RIFFEY LOOKUP Would someone be so kind to look in Charles T. Burton, "Botetourt County, Virginia, Early Settlers," and see if there are land records for George Riffey and John Riffey. These Riffeys (probably father and son) probably lived in the part of Botetourt County that became Roanoke County based on other things that we know about them. I am trying to find out when they settled in Botetourt County, who they bought land from, and possibly who their neighbors were. Riffey is also spelled Riffee, Riffy, etc. Thanks! 2. Rebecca We stopped at the American Museum of Frontier Culture in Staunton, Virginia on our way to Fincastle last summer. It has great reconstructions of houses and life from colonial times in the Shenandoah Valley, with different buildings typical of different ethnic groups. If you are in area, stop by or look at the website. Phyllis Yoshida

    3. There are countless sites online to provide whatever you're looking for, e.g. go to google.com and enter "fincastle colonial architecture" and over 700 links pop up. Also, try entering "fincastle history" or "Virginia colonial customs" and other combinations; you'll get all sorts of links to check out. [By the way, you can enter phrases like "reynolds botetourt wills" or "surname" deeds, etc. and get a fast start to all sorts of data bases.] Sites with links to good resources: http://www.lva.lib.va.us/siteindex/siteindex.htm This is Library of VA index to all their archives & manuscripts, many of which are available online. Take a look at their Virginian Historical Index to see photos of colonial houses, mills, bridges, etc. Another great site for Americana is http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/mdbquery.html Joanne [email protected] wrote: Hello Could someone please give me an example of the architechture of the homes in the Fincastle area about 1760-1770 ? The lived on a farm on the James River near Eagle Rock, VA and moved to WVA during or shortly after the depression. Family stories say the farm was deeded to them either by the Lees or McNultys. I have some Taylor family history but nothing for the Lees or McNultys. Lucy Lee was supposed to be a first cousin of Robert E Lee, but I've never found that connection. Charlie Lee is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery in Covington. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Katie Taylor [email protected]
