You might cxheck on the Allen Dunn and family from the Pulaski Co., KY area approx. 1804. Allen Dunn would be a logical name for a marrage between a Allen and a Dunn. I do know that they seem to come from somewhere in Virginia. Thanks, Chuck W.

It's main focus is to compare the DNA of WV an VA lines and possibly with older lines of Immigrant ancestors. DNA tests until now had certain limiations but a new test is just coming out which increases the ability of the test to differnetiate in a time period when most of us know our lins back 150 years. I can obtain a reduced price for a short period of time perhaps just this week or next or end of month. Direct line Swisher/Switzer males are the only ones who can provide samples. Others who are interested can help by possibly providing donations to cover costs of tests. If anyone is itnerestd in assisting in co-ordinating testing of their direct line or supporting the project to being tested please contact me. General questions about how DNA works can be easily found on the itnerenet with the companies that provide the service.

Ran off the photo of Wheatland Manor--indeed a beautiful place. The land and house were purchased by my 2nd ggrandather, Jacob Cronise, who in turn sold the house and some of the land to his brother, Americus. Americus returned to Maryland after a couple of years, selling the property to A. H. Thompson. I have a couple of pages on Wheatland Manor in my Cronise History. It's set up in WordPerfect. If you wish to reach me at [email protected], I'll be happy to try to send them as an attachment to a return message. If you don't think you can reformat WP in another computer "language," I would be happy just to type it out for you and send it that way. (I used to type most all day at work so that would be no great problem!). I note that the retaining wall was built by Mike English, who I understand still has descendents in the area. Would be happy to have any information you have. Thanks for the picture. Pat Daniels

Here are some tidbits that most likely are of no help at all to you. My grandmother had a cousin named William Sidney Dunn who was born in Botetourt county (probably Staunton). This cousin is a couple of generations later than your William Dunn, but there may a connection. He married a Carey Drake and lived out his years and died in Johnson County, Missouri. An aunt did some research years ago and came up with William Sidney Dunn being a child of Lavina Riley (b. 2 Dec 1850) and David Dunn. My aunt had Lavina Riley as a child of Hugh Riley (b. March 1800 in Botetourt Co., d. 1860) and Elizabeth Berry (b. 4 May 1802, d. 1885, m. 1823 in Staunton). I think my aunt had this connection wrong, and from my digging I think that Lavina may have been a child of James C. Riley of Staunton (b. 1811) and Sarah Elizabeth Foist (b. Dec 1812 in Dundee Scotland, m. 1832). My great aunts and great uncles who knew "Cousin" Will Dunn are now dead; I wasn't wise enough to visit them and learn about my Botetourt roots when they were alive. I will try to find out more about Cousin Will Dunn when I go to Johnson County, MO, this summer. A daughter-in-law of my great uncle Frances Riley still lives there, and I am hoping that she has the notes that Uncle Frank prepared on his Riley family. I know that this is hardly any help to you, but in the off chance you discover some connection, please let me know. Charles R. Whitsett

On a Macintosh you press option-3 (alt-3) to get the £ sign (easy to remember because 3 and the pound(#) symbol share the same key.
Now that i have taught you all how to make the £ sign, I hope I will see some Will & Deed trancriptsions from that time frame. This info is needed for our Website archives. <http://www.drdisk.com.hk/pound_sign.htm> The British Pound sign. The pound sign ££ In Word, or almost any other Windows programs for that matter, press and hold the Alt key while you type 0163 on the numeric keypad at the right of the keyboard (not the numbers above the letters) and when you release the Alt key you will have a £ sign inserted wherever the cursor is at. To set it up specifically in Word only, click on Insert, click on Symbol..., click on the down-pointing triangular arrow beside the Font: box which probably says "Symbol", scroll up to the top of the list where it says (Normal Text), click on (Normal Text), the £ sign should be about 13 squares across on the fourth row about seven squares after the lower-case z, click on the £ sign which should jump up big and blue (actually white on a blue background to be correct), click on the Shortcut Key... button, there should be a blinking cursor in the box titled "Press new shortcut key:", press and hold down the Alt key while you tap the L key, "Alt+L" should appear in the box, click the Assign button, then click the Close button, then click the other Close button. From now on, if you type Alt+L (i.e. hold down the Alt key while tapping the L key) in Word, it will insert the £ sign where the cursor is in your Word document at the moment you release the Alt key. This is faster than remembering Alt+0163, but doesn't work outside of the Word program.
