There were two properties near each other, One built by Ralph Henderson and Sarah Jane Hammond call "Cottage Hill".There is nothing left but a foundation if one could find it. The other house is a big brick house with a white porch which Richard Hipes built but James Pickney Henderson enlarged and farmed. My grandfather was born there and I have a picture of James P. and his wife,Minnie Johston Jones, in the yard, I also have a picture of Minnie's mother,Nancy Trout Jones, sitting on the steps of that house.

I have an old photograph of a family sitting on the front porch of the house at the homestead. It is pre-1910. Do you know when the house went out of the family? I've always wondered who this family was. The photo is an album put together by the lady who know owns the homestead (it is called Spreading Springs Farm now).

I will gather my information on the Hammonds and email it to you (please provide an email). The pictures of St Andrew's chapel were taken right across the road from the Hammond/Hipes Homestead. It was once included in the 400 acres that were passed to Peter Hammond from his father in law. The other graveyard is of the Hammond graves on the property. As you can tell from the pictures, it is in ruins. My mother and I are going up there this fall to clean it up. It is all located in Botetourt County, VA which is 30 minuted from me. The link to the pictures is http://www.gunandgiz.com/Members/gizmet/BotCounty/ if this doesnt work for you for some reason, please let me know.
