John, Your VENABLE family is noted in my new BUFORD book. Just wondering which line you represent. >From my book: (2) Mary Cantey McDowell, was born March 26, 1836 and died, while her husband was teaching at the University of Virginia, on January 15, 1874. She is buried on the University grounds with her husband Charles Scott Venable. Mary and Charles were married in 1856 and had five children. He was a Mathematics Professor at the University of Virginia from 1865 until 1896 and wrote many mathematical texts books that were widely used. Is it possible this is one of your Venables??
