Thanks for the explanation Jean...sorry to be such a bother. Sounds like a great piece of historical writing, most of my folks had left the Bedford area by the mid 1800s, but I may read the book anyway. The period covered is World War II. "The Bedford Boys" to which the book refers was a National Guard unit formed in Bedford, VA at the beginning of World War II. Eventually, the unit was called up, and sent overseas to England to train for the invasion on D-Day. They became part of Company A, First Battalion, and were the first to hit Omaha Beach on D-Day. The loss of life was tremendous. Of the 35 Bedford men that were part of the landing force, 19 were killed in the first 15 minutes of battle. It was the largest per capita loss for any town in the entire war. Since one of the emails mentioned "landing at D-Day", I am assuming you are talking WWII. Is this the only war covered? > Sheila in FL To post to the list, email: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> To contact the list admin, email: [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]> with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
