I and others are researching the five major Phelps lines in early Virginia, and would like to contact any descendants. Y-DNA male line testing will provide strong evidence as to whether these lines are related. The test by mail can be made private (I can explain further) and the Y_DNA is strictly "junk" dna and has no relationship to physical characteristics. A map of the approximate locations of these lines is at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~jamesphelpsresearch/va1850map.gif We very much want to find male descendants of the Phelps line in Bedford - or other early Phelps lines - if they are reasonably sure of their ancestry. The more certain you are the more the chance the other tested Phelps would pay for the test. I am the Phelps Project volunteer administrator.
