This is a reminder of our meeting this Tuesday night on the General History & Culture of the Cherokee, and Genealogy by Dr. R. Michael Abram. The meeting will begin at 6:00 p.m. at the Stuart Baptist Church Fellowship Hall in Stuart. The Church is located on Blue Ridge Street across from the historic Patrick County Courthouse. Dr. R. Michael Abram is the Director of the Cherokee Heritage Museum and Gallery in Cherokee, NC and he will be speaking on the General History & Culture of the Cherokee, and Genealogy. The Cherokee owned all the land on top of the Blue Ridge including Vesta, Meadows of Dan, and Tuggles Gap. The Cherokee were also at Fairystone Park. Many people in both Patrick and Floyd Counties are descended from the Cherokee. This is an opportunity to learn how to research your Cherokee ancestry and learn about their way of life. This program is especially suitable for children, so you're welcome to bring your families to this program. This makes the 10th Native American program that the Patrick County Genealogy Society has hosted since our inception in 1999. The program will be 2 hours long beginning at 6:00 p.m. The first part of the program will be on the General History (Clothing, Food, Clans, Trail of Tears, Baskets, Pottery, etc.) & Culture of the Cherokee. The 2nd hour will be on the Genealogy. There will be a break in between both sessions. We did this so that our school children can attend the program and still get home in time to do their homework. We look forward to seeing you on August 15th. Alpha Hiatt, Vice President Patrick County Genealogy Society __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo!
