I thought it might be of interest to some who do original research to read part of the main source J. T. McAllister used in his compilation of Bedford officers. The Court Order Books exist, for the most part, from 1754 and have been microfilmed and indexed by the Bedford Circuit Court. Therefore the records are readily accessible for search and copying. About 5 year ago I posted the information below on this website just in case some subscribers would find it useful. By the way, no one asked me to look up the names shown below within the last week ! Bedford County, VA, Court Order Book 6, p. 215 November 23, 1778 Stephen Goggin Jun. 2nd Lieut ,qualified according to Law. [not on McAllister's list] Saml Davis 1st Lieut. Joseph Davis 2nd Lieut. & Benj. Griffith Ensign under Capt. Thos. Arthur recommended &c. Chatten Doggett 2nd Lieut. & Moses Greer Ensign under Capt. Wm Rentfro Recommended to his Excellency the Governor. Parmanas Haynes 1st Lieut under Capt. Chiles recomd to his Excellency the Governor as proper persons to act as Militia officers. -------- Court adjd til tomorrow Morng X oclock (signed) Fran Thorp At a Court held for Bedford County November 24th 1778 Presente Robert Ewings, Jeremiah Early James Calloway, Moses Rentfro, Isaac Rentfro, Gente.
