Hello List, While doing some research in the VA Room in the Roanoke Library I found the following Court Record: "January 1759 Ordered that the churchwardens bind out James Thomas, orphan of John Thomas." What does "bind out" mean and where can I find the actual Church records regarding this family issue? Given the date is it likely that this John Thomas of Bedford County was killed (or died) in military service in the French and Indian War? If so where would I look for those records? I also found a Court Record dated 27 June 1757 which states: "John Thomas is appointed a Constable of this County, and it is ordered that Sheriff summon him to appear at the next Court to take the oath of his office."
