I am interested in the BANISTER/BANNISTER family who were in Lunenburg and Bedford early to mid 1700s. If anyone on the list has worked or found mentions of this family in their work, I would love to hear from you. I have found this posting most helpful, but have hit a rather large brick wall. I am searching for information on Joshua Burnett (Burnate/Burnitt and other variants), who was a Baptist Minister in the Strawberry Baptist Association around 1803-1820. Joshua is my 4th Great-Grandfather. Joshua was born about 1773, married in Bedford, later removed to Roanoke, and died at Mason?s Cove in 1852. I have researched him at the Baptist Historical Society in Richmond, but find no evidence of his origin, along with who his Father may have been. Joshua had several children, and his son, Elisha Burnett, Sr., is my 3rd Great-Grandfather, also married in Bedford, but Elisha later removed to Grayson County (which later became Carroll County), re-married, and had a number of sons. I believe Elisha to have been married approximately three (3) times. Joshua mentions Elisha in his will, but gives his portion of the estate to Elisha?s daughter, Nancy Jane Leonard (Nancy Jane Burnett married a James Leonard), instead. Is anyone researching this line, or have any information on these Burnetts? I have seen information (nothing proven, only online family trees that have been out there and copied, according to the owners of these online trees) that suggests that Joshua was born in Dinwiddie; however, further investigation proves a Joshua Burnett in Dinwiddie was in the 1830 Census at the same time ?my Bedford Joshua? was in the 1830 Census in Botetourt (my Joshua did live and preach there for a time). In 1840, ?Dinwiddie Joshua? is between 60 and 70 years old, a female is between 50 and 60, with a female under 5 in the household. In 1850, ?Dinwiddie Joshua? is gone, and ?Bedford Joshua? is in Roanoke. I think all of this is further complicated by the fact that ?both Joshuas? had wives named Sarah, and these ?Joshuas? died within four (4) years of each other! Thank you in advance for any assistance, as it is very greatly appreciated.
