Lois, I know a little. His father is Benjamin Mitchell. He married Mary Jane Lyle in 1840. Mary Jane Lyle is not William's mother. There was a previous marriage to Emily Richardson. This was in 1830. William H. Mitchell was born in 1835. William and Nancy Jane had three children--Sally, Mary S. and James Mitchell.
