    1. Re: Rev.War Bedford militia
    2. About 50 men of Bedford Co. enlisted in July 1777 with Capt. Charles Gwatkins to go to the relief of Boonesborough, or Ft. Boone. These men were to serve as "defenders of the residents" and some, including Ansel Goodman, were also "Indian Spies", or scouts. On their arrival at Boonesborough, they were placed under the command of Col. Daniel Boone. I do not have the full list of those who enlisted at this time, but have seen the group listed as "The Kentucky Expedition". Ref: Rev War pension application of Alsel Goodman of Bedford Co., photocopies in my possession. This Co. and Capt. Gwatkins are also referenced in several Boone biographies. I have not yet done a full cross reference of early Boonsborough residents or the thirty-two captured at The Blue Licks with Boone (both at my web site, see below) with the list of Bedford Rev. War soldiers in various sources, including the "Our Kin" book. It might be interesting. For the full story, start at: http://www.jacksonville.net/~rgman/ansel.htm
