    3. Though not in the militia, per se, but rather Virginia State troops, several Bedford county men joined the troops of General George Rogers Clark and participated in the campaigns in the western frontiers against the British and Indians at Kaskaskia and Vincennes. Muster rolls and payrolls show that they also spent time in Kentucky while serving out their enlistment, specifically in the area of Lincoln. I have pension papers for three of them, David Pagan, Henry Blankenship, and George Key, all of whom served in the cavalry under Captain John Rogers who was a nephew of General Clark. All three men later returned to Bedford county. On another subject, is has anyone ever heard of the SPEECE family? I'm told they were from Campbell county, possibly, and had an ancestral home named "Ivanhoe"? Many thanks, Linda Johns in Florida
