Bannisters were in Bedford co. before 1763/67 when William Bannister left land on Otter River to his children. The last living Bannister male left for Washington Co. about 1818. One Bannister female married a Ramsey and they inherited some of the Otter River land. My favorite ancestors is Nancy Frank who married Simon Ramsey in 1834. She died before the Civil War. He married again and moved to Rockbridge Co. where he lived until 1888. His brother Albert bought all right to the Otter River land from his brothers and sisters and willed it to a sister at his death in 1893. John Frank is first mentioned in 1782 tax rolls. He bought land on the Little Otter River in 1831. His son, Nancy's brother Washington, had sons but none lived to maturity and the land passed on to Washington's girl children at his death in 1869. Nancy and Simon's daughter Anne Elizabeth Ramsey married Josiah Francis Dunnavant in 1856. I'm still wondering how they met since Josiah lived in Botetourt Co. and I have no evidence that he was in Bedford Co. before the wedding. Mysteries: Where did the Franks come from before the first Bedford Co. mention in 1782. Where did William Bannister come from -- was he related to the famous Bannisters in southeast Virginia? Was Bartholmew Ramsey (born before 1745) the first Bedford Co.Ramsey and where did the Ramseys come from? Any cousins out there?
