Hello Harris cuzins, I just returned from the library and I found a book titled: Franklin County Virginia, 1786-1986, "A Bicentennial History" written by John S. Salmon and Emily J. Salmon, published 1993 by the Franklin County Bicentennial Committee. The following is an excerpt from that book, pg. 191 "The Dan River church was created largely because of the efforts of North Carolina Baptist Daniel Marshall. Marshall & Dutton Lane, an immigrant to Virginia from Maryland, preached in Pittsylvania County where they were joined by 2 brothers, Joseph and William Murphy. The preachers converted Samuel Harris, a wealthy Pittsylvania County planter and lay reader in the Church of England in 1759. This conversion was a major coup: Harris was a solid citizen, a member of the House of Burgesses, a county justice and a Colonel of the Militia who commanded Fort Mayo. Harris became an itinerant minister and was associated with the establishment of at least 25 Baptist Churches in Virginia between 1767 and 1791" Can anyone identify this Samuel Harris? Who were his parents? Who was he married too? Did he have issue? Is there a website which lists members of the House of Burgesses? Where can I find out more on this Samuel and the Militia at Fort Mayo on-line? Thank you Pat C. Johns
