Hello Everyone! I read with interest of the DAR's ceremony of a Bedford Revolutionary War patriot. I, too, am a descendant of a Bedford County patriot and hope that someone out there can help me locate his grave. Nathan(iel) Chapman (1761-1829) came to Bedford County from Cumberland County, VA around 1784. He bought 385 acres of land on Beaver Dam Creek from Lemaster Cooksey around 1791. When he died in 1829, Nathan left some of his land for the use of the Jointee Methodist Church and was buried on this land. >From what I understand this church eventually became the Jointee Baptist Church, the Methodists merging with another neighboring congregation. The Church building is no longer standing and many of the original graves were moved to the "new" Methodist church grounds nearby. However, my ancestor is still on this land along with two or three other persons. Does anyone have any idea where to find this long lost gravesite? I was in Bedford County in January and my cousin and I looked everywhere for this site (over some fences and into the brambles!) with no luck. Another cousin tells me that Nathan's grave is on the Bond Farm property...... Any help would be greatly appreciated as I would like to visit his grave and make sure that future generations can find his burial place. Thanks for all your help!
