Dear Freddy, Your email query touched a number of lines of interest to me and for convenience I am copying this reply to the Bedford, Franklin, and Wright mailing lists as well. The Ann (Wright) Watts and Mary (Wright) Watts in your listing were daughters of 1814 (year of death) John Wright of Bedford County, Virginia (place of death) and his wife Mary (Pace) Wright and granddaughters of John Wright (Goochland County Carpenter) and his wife Judith (Easley) Wright. Ann (Wright) Watts died before 1804 and I have three children for her: Mary, Benjamin, and John. I have no children for Mary (Wright) Watts and did not know of Bejamin Watts' second marriage in 1784. If you have any additional information on these two Watts lines, I would much appreciate having it for addition to my materials. The Thomas Wright in your listing was 1845 Thomas Wright of Pittsylvania County, Virginia, a son of 1814 John Wright of Bedford County. He married first Charity Ballenger Hilton in 1790 in Bedford County, Virginia, with Benjamin Watts as his surety, and married second Sarah Elizabeth Pullen in 1792 at Bedford County, Virginia. Over The Mountain Men by Worrell mistakenly listed the second marriage as in 1785, rather than in 1792, because the original return did not have a date on it and was placed in the records near other marriages of that earlier date. 1845 Thomas Wright of Pittsylvania County in 1792 purchased 233 acres of land on Enoch's Creek from George & Martha Sinkler. 1845 Thomas Wright sold that 233 acres of land in 1800 and moved to Pittsylvania County. The John Grant from Loudoun County, Virginia, may be connected to another Wright family. There is an 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia, who the evidence inidcates married Mary Grant, daughter of William Grant the younger from King George County, Virginia. 1809 William Wright resided in Fauquier County, and then moved to Bedford County, Virginia by 1772, in a part that later became Franklin County. His wife Mary (Grant) Wright has been sometimes identified as Mary (Williams) Wright, based on a mistaken interpretation of a deed in Fauquier County, but the evidence to date makes a compelling case that she was a Grant. Roger Morris has done an excellent job of explaining the error derived from this deed. The deed was from William and Mary Wright and David and Betty Williams and was a sale by the Wrights and merely a quitclaim of any interest in the title by the Williams. The Williams participation in the deed was necessary because of a break in the chain of title of the land in a prior sale. As an additional association of Wrights and Grants, a John Wright and a Wingfield Wright were witnesses to Fauquier County deeds by a John Grant of King George County and a John Wright and Wingfield Wright also showed up in Bedford County in the early 1780's. The John Grant from Loudoun County in your listing was probably related to these Grants from Fauquier and King George Counties and to the family of 1809 William Wright of Franklin County, Virginia. As to your direct question on the land, I suspect that you are right in thinking that the sale by John Grant and Wayman Sinclair was of property inherited by them or their wives from a parent. If the will gave the land to the children, there sometimes was no further order of court allocating the land to them; the will was considered the recorded document of title transfer. But if the will did not give the land to the children, then there may just be in the probate, deed, or court records an order for the division and allotment of that land. Or a final possibility, like the deed from Mary (Grant) Wright mentioned above, it may have been a deed from one of the parties and simply a quitclaim from the others to clear title to the land. Probably the only way to be certain would be to trace out the metes and bounds of the land, locate that land on a geological survey map, and then trace the ownership both backwards to the original patent to determine the chain of ownership. Hope this is of some help to you and I will be happy to exchange information on any of the above families that are of interest to you. Best wishes, Robert N.
