Subject: Markham Cemetery Cleanup Date: Sat, 22 May 1999 09:01:47 -0400 From: Thomas Markham <markm@ictransnet.com> To: MARKHAM Mailing List <MARKHAM-L@rootsweb.com> Attention Markhams!!! and Markham Friends Those of us who are planning to work and help on the Old Markham Cemetery Cleanup, and then on Sunday July 18th go the Covington, Virginia for the MARKHAM REUNION, should bring a covered dish, or bucket of chicken, or something in the picnic theme of food, (already prepared), and drinks. I have been in touch with Virginia Smith, who first brought this Reunion to my attention, and she can be more specific in these matters. If you need additional information, Virginia's E-Mail address is JniWren@aol.com. I will post to the List in several days the directions of where the Reunion in Covington, Va. is to be held, and how to get there. Also I will post the directions as to where the Cemetery Cleanup People will meet on the morning of July 16th, and directions as to how to get there. The Old Markham Cemetery is located in Eastern Botetourt County, on the Western Slope of the Peaks of Otter, on property near Middle Creek, just off state road 614, accessible from I-81 at the first Exit Ramp North of Buchanan, VA. and then on East through Arcadia, Va. on State 614 to Middle Creek Area. In the coming weeks we will be more specific as to the location of all these events. Those who would like to help locate the Other Markham Cemetery in this same area, where Jesse E. Markham's Family is buried, please contact Darryl Winger at DWSteeler@webtv.net to make arrangements. Darryl has been the one, who with help from Floyd Markham, has located the Old Markham Cemetery on Middle Creek, and is now in the process of locating the Old Markham Cemetery (Jesse's) on Jennings Creek. Anyone with information on the location of this second Markham Cemetery please get in touch with Darryl. I have had several inquiries as to who is buried at the John Markham Cemetery on Middle Creek. Virginia Smith has a list compiled by Ossie Markham, about twenty years ago, with all of the names of the People buried at this cemetery. I suggest those who would like this information, get in touch with Virginia. Tommy Markham
