Just out of curiosity...has anyone found any instances of wealthy men having another family "on the side"? The period I'm interested in is the late 1700's. We've all heard stories of some of the founding fathers being a little less than circumspect in these matters. And if there was such an arrangement, and children were born, would the children have had the mother's name as their last name? Sometimes when you run into a brick wall you have to run around it!
