In reference to my posting of the list of men in the Battle of Point Pleasant: I'm told by Carolyn that Col. William Fleming survived the battle though gravely wounded. I suspect there are several errors in the list. I have read that about 75 men died but the lists I have seen never add up to that number. So take all these old publications with a grain of salt. Edwin
Wow!! Thanks for this list. I used the "Find" way to see if any of my ancestors were there and found just a very few of them, and then I noticed that many of the names were misspelled. After I saw that, I found quite a number of them. Thanks, Velma **************Ideas to please picky eaters. Watch video on AOL Living. Many of you have seen this. I believe this is the grandson? of the Matthew Talbot who was a JP in early Lunenburg. Many Bedford/Campbell folks moved to Wilkes county, Georgia, after the Rev. War. Including my orphan Christopher Irvin. I have seen many deeds involving Bufords and Earlys, etc. It appears they did some land speculating, buying up large tracts, and reselling them in smaller lots. Edwin Biographical Sketch of Matthew Talbot 1769 - 1827 Governor of Georgia, 1819; President of the Georgia Senate 1811, 1817-1822 By John Lamar Mills Matthew Talbot accompanied his father when he moved from Bedford County, Virginia to Wilkes County Georgia about 1783. Among his youthful pursuits were land surveying and service in the Georgia militia, after which he became known as "Captain" Matthew Talbot. His first marriage was reported in the Augusta Chronicle and Gazette as follows: "In Wilkes County, Tuesday the 5th inst., CAPT., MATTHEW TALBOT to the amiable MISS ANNA TWINNING. Sept. 14, 1799," Following in his father's footsteps, he entered politics in 1799 and remained active in state politics for virtually the rest of his life. He was elected to the Georgia General Assembly in that year and to the Georgia Senate in 1808. He served as President of the Senate in 1811 and 1817 - 22. As Senate President, he became Governor of Georgia on October 24, 1819, following the death in office of Governor Rabun. He remained in that office until November 5, 1819, when the Senate elected his political ally, John Clark, as his successor. In 1823, he was a candidate for governor but lost in the Senate by one vote. He retired from politics in 1824, but, once again, was a candidate for governor in 1827, when he suddenly died at his home in Washington, GA. Politics was obviously his main occupation, but he remained active in business and financial affairs. One interesting project in which he participated was the founding in 1810 of Georgia's first cotton mill in Washington, GA. The milling industry did not thrive in the South, however, and soon became concentrated in New England, with raw material provided by Southern plantations. Governor Talbot left no will following his sudden death. His brother, Thomas, was appointed Administrator of his estate. Although the estate contained substantial assets, it value was reportedly substantially offset by his obligations. He apparently paid a material price for his devotion to politics rather than business affairs; however, he was awarded the posthumous honor of having a county (Talbot) and a town (Talbotton) named for him. geovisit();
Hi Edwin, Campbell County was created in 1782 from Bedford County, so your deed of 1771 is describing what was Bedford County then but is Campbell County now I think. There isn't a Flat Creek in Bedford listed in Topozone http://www.topozone.com/states/Virginia.asp?county=Bedford&feature=Stream . Linda, Could you check to see if Burnetts are there in your index? If you can give me the names, if there are any, I can fill you in on those to check. Thank you for doing this! Sincerely, Barbara Crockett New Dear Friends, I have had several requests for lookups and would be happy to do it. It would be helpful if when requesting info you could mention several first names in the family you are searching within a time frame. Several of these Surnames have over 20 people in them. I can give you the names listed in the index for a family if you would pick which ones you want me to look up. Otherwise, I'll be typing all day. Thanks, Linda Lang Barbara Crockett New

They then feed into my Boatwright/Kasey line......The age would be about right. I'd love to hear if you know any more about this family. Hello List, While doing some research in the VA Room in the Roanoke Library I found the following Court Record: "January 1759 Ordered that the churchwardens bind out James Thomas, orphan of John Thomas." What does "bind out" mean and where can I find the actual Church records regarding this family issue? Given the date is it likely that this John Thomas of Bedford County was killed (or died) in military service in the French and Indian War? If so where would I look for those records? I also found a Court Record dated 27 June 1757 which states: "John Thomas is appointed a Constable of this County, and it is ordered that Sheriff summon him to appear at the next Court to take the oath of his office." Where would I find records regarding his service as County Constable? Thanks, Bobby Thomas, Wake Forest, NC

Dear Joe Buford, In reponse to your request for a Gayle Blankenship lookup, there are a lot of Bufords in the book, but I find no Demarcus Buford who married Mary Ann Haynes on 8 June 1843 Bedford. Sorry, it took so long. Any other Bufords out there that can help Joe? Regards, Linda B Lang
I am looking for the existence of Isaac Winchester who married Susan Bell, I estimate that Isaac was born plus or minus 1697 in the British Isles. He is report to have lived in Virginia. Susan Bell was born on the ship coming to America. Bell may or may not be her surname. **************Biggest Grammy Award surprises of all time on AOL Music.
