    2. Edwin "Tex" Irvin
    3. Great website-- http://www.virginiadot.org/vtrc/main/online_reports/pdf/75-r72.pdf Lotta great stuff on old Albemarle. And remember, old Goochland/Albemarle encompassed much of the area south of the James river, portions of which became the northern half of Bedford/Campbell, and Appomattox/Buckingham. This is a long, detailed work that talks much of the early formation of the counties. Many surnames of the very early settlers of the area. Edwin

    1. [VABEDFOR] Book on Amherst county
    2. Edwin "Tex" Irvin
    3. Does anyone have access to this book? Amherst County, VA. In the Revolution. Including Extracts from the "LOST ORDER BOOK" 1773-1782. By: Lenora H. Sweeny, Orig. Pub. 1951, Reprinted 1998, 230 pages, Index, Hard Cover, ISBN #0-89308-269-4. Located on the eastern slope of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Amherst County was created from the southwestern portion of Albemarle County in 1761. Originally, its boundary lines were much larger, included in it's boundaries was Nelson County which was Nelson County which was carved off in 1808. It is surrounded by the present day counties of: Appomattox, Bedford, Botetourt, Buckingham, Campbell, Nelson, and Rockbridge. Thought to have been destroyed or carried off during the Civil War, the Amherst Order Book covering the Revolutionary time frame was discovered by the author during one of her many trips to the court house while doing research. Not only was the: Lost Order Book" 1773-1782 used to complete this book but other sources as well including Muster & Pay Rolls. Included in the discussion of Amherst's participation in the Revolution are many lists of which some are: The First Rifle Company, Officers of the Militia before and during the Revolution, Revolutionary soldiers from Amherst County comprising then the territory of the present day county of Nelson, and many, many lists of muster & payrolls from various companies serving duty from Amherst County. The author has even included disbursements to wives, widows & orphans of Revolutionary soldiers and also, claims for property impresses or taken for public service. Another interesting feature of this "Lost Order Book" 1773-1782 is a list of the names of soldiers who proved they had served in the French & Indian War and thus qualified to obtain bounty land allowed by the proclamation of the King of Great Britain in 1763. Of Special interest, the author has included over 200 applications of Amherst soldiers for Pensions. These applications many times give such information as: date & place of birth, date of death, current residence at time of filing, date of enlistment, his service record, date of marriage, names of spouse & children, along with their birth dates and marriage dates, names of his & his wife's parents, names of fellow soldiers he served with, even neighbors that lived beside him before taken duty, and date placed on pension roll I believe Southern Historical Press in Greenville, SC sells it for $30.00. However, my wife will kill me if I buy anymore old books. Maybe someone can help me out. I am looking for any references to Christopher Irvin/Irvine. Edwin

    3. Wish I could give you a good answer, but John Arthur left a Bible Record. It lists children as JOHN ARTHUR BIBLE of Bedford County, From: Rev. War Pension #W5636 BIRTHS Thomas Arthur 1/3/1787 Sally Arthur 4/27/1800 Dosia Arthur 11/23/1789 Caleb Arthur 7/2/1802 Willis Arthur 2/27/1791 Winnifred Arthur 1/8/1805 Larkin Arthur 2/5/1793 Lilly Ann Arthur 3/12/1795 John Arthur 9/15/1797 Nenah? (name was Zenus Nicodemus {honest}) Arthur 3/21/1807 Lilly Ann Arthur 3/12/1795 (these were grandchildren) Melindah Arthur 1/17/1807 Emley (Emily) Jane Arthur 1/3/1816 Elizabeth Arthur 9/1816 So no Gilbert Arthur nor Charlotte. I do have four Charlotte Arthur'S but I don't know any are yours... 1. Charlotte (no birth or death date) m Daniel Ashwell 1839 Bedford, d/o Joseph Arthur and Charlotte Martin 2. Charlotte (not much info) d/o Felix Arthur (b 1800) and Sabrina Ward 3. Charlotte b. 3 Jan 1833 d. 27 Dec 1861 Frankln Co VA 4. Charlotte E. b. abt 1832 perhaps in Jackson Co OH m a Lackey- none are my lines and I haven't traced or greatly verified their info, but just in case. I have no Gilbert's listed. Many of the Arthur families moved west, taking advantage of bounty lands from Rev. War service. You might look at the NARA archives and see if one pops up there. It used to be easy to access, but I think to get the files has become quite expensive. 3. If anyone could substantiate the wife of Thomas Snow as Winifred Jordan, I'd love to know. I have her as Winifred, but her last name hasn't been found, best I know. I'd love to know if she was a Jordan. I have two mysterious women ancestors, both said to be Jordan, but I cannot find any family to connect them to. I descend through Thomas Snow, my 8th great grandfather, through daughter Sarah "Sally" Adams m. John A Adams. their daughter Elizabeth "Betsy" Addams m John Arthur (1785 Bedford) , their daughter Lilly m Thomas Arthur (her cousin) 1813 Bedford, their daughter Malinda George Creasy 1831 Bedford, their daughter Lillian Ann Creasy m Daniel Pleasant Moon (1850 Campbell), their son, Daniel D Moon m Willie Craddock Williams 1886 Pittsylvania and their daughter Nona Roberta Moon - my great grandmother- married young, died old! 3. Hello folks, Spring at last - for most of us - some of my friends are still battling flood waters. May God help them.... I just finished another Buford Website up-date and want to invite you all to come by and take a look. I reconstructed another Buford line that encompass eight states - from Florida to Kansas and Texas. Over 40 pages in my Microsoft Word. It is a monster and took me a long time in researching. I want to thank all of you who gave me a helping hand along the way - you know who you are.... Hope you all had a Great Winter and are now starting to enjoy Spring. We here in Colorado have sure had our share of the soft White stuff. Snow fall this year is over 200% of the norm. Our rivers will be crowding their banks soon. Take care everyone. Fern K. 1. [VABEDFOR] County Formation

    3. >From the New Papyrus Publishing Company's On-Line Catalog. This is a great publisher for Genealogy books, by the way. And they are quite cheap. Anyway, we have spoken much about the boundary lines of the old counties that eventually evolved into Bedford/Campbell. Most people think the parent counties were Brunswick and Lunenburg and confine their searches accordingly. This is a mistake. The northern line of old Brunswick and Lunenburg was not the James River. It was a line below the Appomattox extending west to the Blue Ridge. Bedford's northern line was not fixed at the James until early 1755, soon after it's formation in 1754. So, if you are looking for your kin earlier than that, you need to search elsewhere. Especially if they lived in the northern half of what became Bedford/Campbell. Goochland county was formed in 1728 from the western portion of Henrico county. At the time of its creation, Goochland's lands stretched to include all or part of the present counties of Amherst, Appomattox, Albemarle, Bedford, Buckingham, Campbell, Cumberland, Fluvanna, Nelson, and Powhatan. In 1744 the western portion of Goochland was detached to form Albemarle county, and in 1749 Cumberland county was created out of Goochland's lands south of the James. Albemarle county was created on 31 Dec. 1744 from the western portion of Goochland county. At the time of its formation, Albemarle included the territory of the present counties of Amherst, Buckingham, Fluvanna, and Nelson, the southern part of Albemarle, and the northern portions of Appomattox, Bedford, and Campbell counties. The northern parts of present day Bedford and Campbell were detached from Albemarle in 1755 and added to Bedford county. At the same time the northwest portion of present Appomattox was also added to Bedford. Edwin The link for the publisher---http://genealogyresources.org/index.html
