    1. Re: [VABEDFOR] Need info on Anderson's of Bedford co, Va.
    2. Margaret Mabrey
    3. Thanks to 'Tex' for the website. I have used it for years, before Patrick Anderson gave up the daily care of the website. I don't know the name of the person who is in charge now. I scanned the website but I couldn't find a name. However there is good info for those that are searching. Some mistakes, but then aren't we all familiar with those.? I have searched for years for some background on 4 Anderson males who settled in Grayson co, Va. John and Jacob, known brothers, b ca 1758 and 1756. place unknown. Peter Anderson b 1756, Bedford co, Va. James married Martha Nuckols, ( not thought to be related to the others) John, Jacob and Peter's descendants all test in the same group (Gp#4) on the Anderson FTDNA website, with the same haplogroup, with Nordic blood. So there is a connection somewhere. I don't profess to know a lot about DNA. Is anyone out there that has knowledge of any Andersons in Bedford co, Va around that time frame, I would like to hear from you. Maybe we can compile a list of those. Any help would be appreciated. 2. Karen Wood
    3. I have a Jacob Anderson of Bedford Co or at least of Bedford when he died, but I do not have his siblings. Actually, I should restate that. I have siblings for Jacob Anderson, but not a John. His father was George Anderson, as far as I know, born perhaps in Scotland, married a widow whom I believe was the widow Ann (Perhaps nee Hargrave) , widow of a Mr. Cofer, who appers in Alexandria, then died, leaving one son, Thomas Cofer- raised by George Anderson. the children I know of for George Anderson and wife, Ann(e)] were Joshua Sarah (my line) 1729-abt 1770 m Jeremiah Early Jacob (also my line) (1740/41-1827) m. Mary Calloway 1759 George (abt 1740-1788) m. Mary Read(e)/Reed Elizabeth m Nathan Underwood Martha "Patty" m Henry Dooley Anna m Mr Beasley Its quite possible there was a son, john, but if so, I don't have any information. ON the chance that perhaps he was a brother of Jacob or a 1/2 brother by another wife, I figured I"d toss it into the pool..... Happy hunting. ----- Original Message ----- From: <Rudahl@aol.com> To: <VABEDFOR@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, May 06, 2008 8:03 PM Subject: [VABEDFOR] John Anderson 1758 Bedford Cty > So that some of you know !! it's COUNTY !! > > I need the father of this individual - He had a brother named Jacob. 3. Someone was looking for John Anderson, born in Bedford City in 1758. I don't think there was a Bedford City in 1758. This village was called Liberty and it was not founded until 1782 or so. It was renamed Bedford City, probably a hundred years after that. The original county seat of Bedford county was New London, leftover from old Lunenburg county. Liberty was named the county seat of Bedford after the formation of Campbell county, and it's new seat was Rustburg. Edwin

For example, one of my Bedford County ancestors, James N. Thomas, served in Fry's Battery of the Orange Light Artillery. Just a thought. The main problem is this site didn't mention 58Th Va proudest moment at Sharpsburg (Antietam) Md. This was bloodest day in American History until WW11. The 58Th Va plugged gap in southern line at the Dunker's Church, "Ole Jube " Early of Franklin County Va was commanding Gen under Thomas "Stonewall" Jackson. These troops had marched from Harper's Ferry Va back to Sharpsburg Md to be engaged in the major action. My Ben T Overstreet was wounded at Sharpsburg, 17, Sept 1862, he was over 40 at the time. He had several brothers, brothers-in-law all in 58th Va. My 2nd great-father, John Henry Preas, had one brother die of Measles, another wounded. The 58th Va marched over 500 miles in one month. A good book is "58th Virginia Infantry" by Robert J Driver, Jr. In his book the 58th Va had to eat green corn and apples many times due to supply problems. A Maryland native described the Southern Army as being dirty, unshaven, but very polite, and only entered if invited into a home. This was printed in another Civil War magazine. There was some rumor that the 58th lost their flag, but also, 58th was last unit to surrender at Appomattox. 2. Can anyone tell me if there is any record of James Kasey, of Bedford Co. in the mid to late 1700s, becoming a naturalized citizen? If so, where would I find the naturalization papers?
