Searching for information on Benjamin Robinson. Ben Rob(1755-1848) was born in Caroline Co., VA and migrated to Bedford Co after the Revolutionary War. He enlisted in the Ind. Reg.'Line from Caroline Co. He later joined the Cavalry at Fredericksburg under the command o Col. Baylor. He fought in the battles of Germantown and Brandwine in PA and Tappon in NJ. and spent the winter(1776/1777 at Valley Forge in PA. After moving to Bedford county he married Margaret North. Their children were Abraham, Elizabeth, Susan, and Nancy. His pension records are in the National Archives in Washington, D.C. However there was no mention of his parents, who must have lived in Caroline, CO.,VA. Research on Ben has yielded no info on his parents. Any leads on this long standing mystery would be very much appreciated. Roland R. Robinson
I am trying to sort out all the William Browns of early Bedford County. Two of them ended up in Campbell Co. when it was split off. Does anyone have a copy of the will of William Brown who died in Campbell County in 1782? Thanks, Tracy J. Brown Tracy.Brown@eastmansoftware.com Weekends: TJBrownNH@aol.com

Does anyone have information on the Strawberry Baptist Association? My JOHNSONs were supposed to be a part of it. Thanks, Jeri
My great-grandmother was Martha Octavia Booth. She generally used her middle name Octavia. According to her tombstone, she was born May 1, 1855, and died September 12, 1924. She married William Henry Harrison Pagans on September 11, 1870, in Franklin County, VA. The old homeplace is near Hales Ford Bridge on what is now the Waterfront Properties. On her marriage license, it lists her parents as William and Elizabeth Booth. In the 1860 census, she is living with Kessiah Booth, age 60, female and Mariah Booth, age 21, female. I am looking for any information on her parents, siblings (if any) or the people she was living with in 1860. Why was she there and not with her parents? What was her mother's maiden name? What are her parents birth and death dates? Donna Wingfield
Other than the book, "Our Kin," by Ackerly and Lulu Parker, has any other book been printed on the history of Bedford Co., Va.? Carol at bcmolen@juno.com
Bedford Researches, In case some of you do not know about it there is a book, OUR KIN ( I think it was by a person whose last name was Jeter) that is in most libraries that gives family histories of many of the Bedford County families. The Hatchers and Whites are in it. I live in Williamson County, Tennessee and many of the Bedford County people came here in the early 1800s including some of the Hatchers and Whites. Sue Barton Oden Thompson's Station, TN
Bedford Researchers, This is a quote for another great book, "The History of Bedford County, Virginia", page 37, by Lula Jeter Parker: " ... 'Our Kin,' the history and genealogy of many of the old and prominent families of Bedford County, written by Mary Denham Ackerly (now Mrs. G. Harris Field) and Lula Eastman Jeter Parker ..." I think it is two volumes? It's been awhile since I've looked at it. Unfortunately, it does not include the Gross family. Julie Smith (Researching: Bays, Bohn, Bowyer, Carter, GROSS, Martin, Rice, Stanley and Tuck in Bedford County)

Dear Shelby & Geri, Ann Brown's email arrived while I was out of town and this is the first chance I have had to respond to your query. For convenience, I am sending this response to the Bedford County, Virginia, and Wright mailing lists as well. 1850 (year of death) Tommey Wright of Bedford County, Virginia (place of death) was born about 1763 or between 1760 & 1764 at Virginia and probably at Bedford County. He married Synthia Mayse on December 15, 1785, at Bedford County, Virginia, resided in Bedford County, and died on July 14, 1850, at Bedford County, Virginia. Tommey and Synthia had the following children: 1. John Wright, born 1787/1788, 2. Elizabeth (Wright) (Woodcock) Meador, born c. 1790, 3. Mary (Wright) Mayse, born c. 1791, 4. James Wright, born April 13, 1792, 5. Joel Wright, born March 25, 1797 or 1799, 6. Jubel Wright, born April or May 1802, and 7. Nancy (Wright) Chapman, born c. 1806 or 1807. 1850 Tommey Wright of Bedford County was a son of 1803 John Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, and Elizabeth (Pate) Wright. Synthia (Mayse) Wright was a daughter of 1795 James Mayse of Bedford County, Virginia, and Marey (_____) Mayse. 1803 John Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, was a son of 1763 Thomas Wright of Bedford County, Virginia, and Mary (_____) Wright. Elizabeth (Pate) Wright was a daughter of 1782 Anthony Pate of Montgomery County, Virginia, and Sarah (probably English) Wright. I have collected a substantial amount of information on this family and would be happy to exchange information. Best wishes, Robert N. It has been a while since I have listed my husband's elusive ancestor. Maybe someone new to this list might know who are his parents. Micajah G. Morris born abt. 1811 possibly Campbell Co.Va. Married Lively M. Scott 20 Dec 1832 in Pittsylavania Co.Va. Died in 1895 in Bedford Co.Va. Have yet to locate where he is buried. He was also known as "Mike" Morris. I have tried to get a death certificate from Vital Records in Richmond, Va. but they could not find one for him. There were many Morris and Goodman families in the Campbell Co. area who married and I am wondering if his middle initial "G" could be for Goodman. Thanks for any help. kathie
Hello Bedford researchers, I must have missed the original post on this as I didn't realize anyone was researching the 58th until I saw the message from Jeri. I have a great grandfather, six uncles and a two cousins who served in Company E of the 58th, the Franklin or Hales Ford Guards. They enlisted at John Pasley's Store on Gill's creek in Franklin county. Linda Johns
Does anyone know where the FRANKLIN Mill is located on Radford's Ford and how to get to it? Any help on this is appreciated. Jeri Gallus
Hi, A long while back you sent e-mails around asking for information on the 58th men. My Gr Gr Grandfather fought with them. He enlisted at Hendricks Store. His name was Thomas Power PAYNE. It wasn't one of the original names you sent, but I didn't know if you had what you needed. I still don't have much, as I have only been at this a year. Thanks you for your time, Jeri Gallus ps. I am still working on other surnames from the area, bear with me!!
