    2. Drema Swader
    3. Lonny (and others with interests in Bedford County), Unlike most other U.S. states, all of the major cities in Virginia are not included as part of the county in which they lie. Lynchburg is between Campbell, Bedford, and Amherst Counties. If you would like to see a map of these counties, then you can take a look at my web page at: http://support.mapguide.com/drema but you will have to have a Viewer to see the maps in Netscape or Internet Explorer. The Viewer can be downloaded for free from http://www.autodesk.com/products/mapguide/vdwnload.htm The first map is a map of Virginia without much detail, but you can select counties and run a report to get a history of when that county was created, and what counties it was created from. If you double click on Bedford our Campbell County, you will pull up a new, more detailed map of those counties. If you zoom into the Bedford County map, you will see roads, rivers, cemeteries, etc. I have big plans for this map in which I plan to solicit help from all those interested in Bedford County genealogy. This summer, I plan on adding links from the cemeteries on the map to a database that will give the person viewing the map a list of the people buried there (and birth and death dates, etc). This will be a pretty big project, but I am well on my way with the maps that I have there now. Excuse the slowness of the maps, I plan to do some work later on that will speed up the performance. Go and have a look! Let me know what you think of my Bedford County Cemetery idea. Drema http://www.wco.com/~drema Lonny J. Watro wrote: > Is Lynchburg in Bedford county? > > Thanks, > Lonny J. 3. Hi everyone, I am needing some help with a look up or guidance on where to look for information about Thomas Buford Sr. and Henry Buford Sr. THomas was born Mar 11, 1776 in Bedford County, Va and died on Dec 31, 1814. Henry was born Sept. 19, 1751 and died on Dec. 31, 1814. As you may notice that these two men died on the same day (Father and Son). Henry had been with the Virginia State Militia and the military for a long time. Pretty easy to find info on him. I am interested in knowing where they may be buried and how the death happened, if tehre was an uprising during this time in 1814 in Bedford or maybe it was just an accident of some sorts that caused these two men to die the same day. If anyone could look this up for me that has access to information or send me in the direction where I may be able to find it would be much appreciated. Debra

    3. On a posting from Rena Worthen today, she mentioned the book "Our Kin." This is a great book on early Bedford County, VA families. The book is out of print, but I have been in contact with the publisher. If anyone is interested in possibly obtaining a copy, please go to my website below, and click on "Can You Help?" I have listed some of the surnames in the book, and discuss the possibility of getting it republished. I look forward to lots of replys. J. Goforth -- My Family Tree: http://www.flash.net/~maclover/

    3. Hi All, In answer to Lonny's question, no, Lynchburg is not in Bedford County. At one time it used to be a part of Campbell County but somewhere along the way it became an independent city outside of all surrounding counties. Hope this helps. Sharon

    3. Edith BROWN first appears on tax lists for Bedford County from 1789 through 1794 as the head of the house with no titheables over 21. She is listed on the tax rolls after Joseph, Zachariah and Jesse BROWN. Although I don't know who they are, I am assuming that there was some relation to them as they were listed together and all lived in the Beaverdam Creek area of the county. Edith was not listed after 1794 since on July 19, 1794 (bond dated for marriage) she married John GRANT, formerly of Botetourt County. They were married July 22 by Rev. John AYERS, a Methodist minister. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------------------------- This is a list of known children of Edith and her husband _______ BROWN: 1.George Thomas BROWN b. 1768 2.Henry BROWN (possible) mar. 3. Vivian, I found this info on a William Mead (in my tree), imported from WFT Vol. 6 Tree #1517. The dates are close and the location is right. Might want to follow this one up. William Mead resided in Bucks County in 1744 when he purchased from Andrew Ellett (who married Hannah Mead of Dublin MM in 1706) in Lower Makefield Township, Bucks County, 220 acres on the Delaware River. (Andrew was an early setttler in Bucks Co., his patent dated Sept 26, 1701.) In 1747 William sold the 220 acres to Hezekiah Anderson, and went to Fairfax County, Va. Granted certificates to Fairfax MM were Elhena Mead and William Mead and wife in 1746, and Ann Mead in 1764 (the last Mead notation at Falls MM). According to one source, he later went to Bedford County, Va and remained seven years, where he had a magnificent estate, "Royal Forest." He returned to the farm called "Greenway" (which has been preserved), 2 miles from Leesburg, Loudoun County, where he died and is buried in the Friend's Burial Ground by his parents near Waterford outside Leesburg, Loudoun Co., Va. His will was dated June 17, 1780, and probated Aug 9, 1784, in Loudoun Co., mentions "beloved wife" and children: MARY BROWN and her sons, WILLIAM, THOMAS and JOSEPH RHODES; HANNAH THOMAS; ANN; MARTHA WRIGHT; ELIZABETH POTTS; WILLIAM MEAD; grandsons; WILLIAM WRIGHT and JOSEPH THOMAS. Executrix: wife. Witnesses: Christopher Greenup, Charles Binns, John Binn s. The Loudoun Co. will of Ellen Worrell Mead, dated Dec. 3 1785, probated Apr 10, 1787, named daughters: HANNAH THOMAS, MARY BROWN, ANN MEAD, MARTHA WRIGHT, ELIZABETH POTTS, to have all the land in Bucks Co., Pa "which fell to me by decease of sister MARTHA BROWN Pa." Executrix: Anne Mead (daughter) and Ezekial Potts (son-in-law). John
