I am researching the Holland Family in Southwest Virginia in the counties of Bedford, Floyd, Franklin and Montgomery. My great grandfather was William Reily Holland b. about 1820, d. 14 September 1897 in Floyd County, Virginia. He married Mary Jane (Polly) Moore, of Franklin County, VA on 27 December 1843. They had 13 children, 11 of which lived to maturity. I am trying to determine the parents of William Reily Holland. His father may have been a "John Holland," since his first son was named "John." He also had a son named "James." The parents of Polly Moore were John Moore and Annie Austin of Franklin County, VA The Floyd County, Virginia Clerks Office recognizes these nine variant spellings of this family name: Holland, Hollands, Hollans, Holan, Hollens, Hollen, Hollon, Hollins, Hollings I have found in legal documents several variant spellings of the name in the same document! In my Holland ancestory there were a number of first names of "Jesse, Benjamin, John, William, James" Do you have similar naming patterns in and of your Holland ancestery in the 1700 to 1850 time period? I would be happy to share any data that might assist you. Thank you. Irby N. Hollans, Jr. in Fairfax, VA ihollans@laser.net Irby Hollans, in Fairfax, VA ihollans@laser.net
IMPORTANT NOTICE Hello to all who a part of the Markham family and their Friends. Here is some important information that I hope will be of interest to you. After the Cemetery Cleanup Project at Jennings and Middle Creek, Botetourt County, Va. on July the 16th and 17th., there will be a Markham Family Reunion on Sunday July 18th 1999 starting about noon at Covington Moose Park, in Covington, Virginia. This is 3 to 3 1/2 miles West of Covington, Va. To get to the Moose Park by way of Interstate 64, you bypass Covington exits, and go to Exit 10, turn right off the ramp, and follow this road about 2 to 2 1/2 miles, and you will see the Moose Park Entrance on the left. Go down this road until you come to the Moose Home. Drive past onto a dirt road which will take you around the Moose Park Field. You will be able to see the picnic shelter as you drive on this road. It is customary for those attending this reunion to bring covered dishes, like a salad and meat dish , or a salad and a desert, or a salad and a casserole, and drinks, you know what I mean. Everyone brings their own plates, eating utensils, napkins, and cups. Another custom is to donate one dollar for each person over 13 years of age to offset the expense of renting the park, there is a registration table for this purpose. Social time will begin at 12:30 and dinner will be at 2:00 PM. For those who want to come early, someone will be at the park at 9:00 AM, with most people leaving around dusk. Richard "Smoky" Markham is in charge of the reunion, but does not have E-Mail. If you need further information you can contact Virginia Smith at JniWren@aol.com , or myself at markm@ictransnet.com Let me invite you and your family to attend this reunion, as they are expecting the biggest turnout ever. I have contacted some of you already, and many have said that they will be in attendance, even from as far away as California and Missouri. This will be an opportunity to meet and talk with many cousins about our family, and share interesting stories with each other about them. We need to know the number of people who are coming to help with the Cemetery Cleanup Project to be held on Friday and Saturday July 16th and 17th. Plans are under way to select a meeting site for this Cleanup Project and a list of places to stay in the Buchanan, Va. area. If you plan to be a parrot this effort please contact, Tommy Markham at markm@ictransnet.com, Brenda Marble BMarble@aol.com, Darryl Winger DWSteeler@webtv.net, or Melvin Markham mleekham@worldnet.att.net, in order for us to know the size of the group there will be for this most important event. I know that it is impossible for all of you to attend, but please mark your calendar, and consider joining us on the 16th and 17th for the Cemetery Cleanup and on the 18th of July for the Reunion. Bring rakes and weed eaters to the cleanup and a covered dish, bucket of chicken, pack of soft drinks, ice tea, coffee or whatever you feel like, to the reunion including a hearty appetite, and a desire to meet other members of your family. Contact me or Virginia if you would like more information on the reunion. Hope to see you there. Hi, I am looking for any info on a John Wesley Ayers (born late 1700s) who married Mary Power of New Kent Co, VA on 24 Jan 1811. Mary was b. Oct 1788, d. 18 Apr 1859 in (I believe) Bedford Co. My research has stopped at William Wesley Ayers of Bedford Co, VA b. 21 Dec 1850, and d. 5 Feb 1934. William Wesley was m/ Madora (or Madonna) Thomas Mattox, whom I have no info on. Believe John Wesley to be gf of William Wesley, but can't make the connect. Does anyone have any pieces of the puzzle. I am 3rd gen grandson and need some help. Thanks, Wes McDaniel (Mayhew)
Lemira Lambert, b. ca. 1822 in Virginia, married John Yates Snead on 18 Nov 1839 in Bedford County VA. On 17 Apr 1843, John Y. Snead acted as surety for Sarah Ann Lambert, who married Paul Clay. Sarah Ann was shown as the daughter of Mrs. Susan W. Lambert. It seems reasonable to me that Lemira and Sarah Ann were sisters, and the daughters of Mrs. Susan W. Lambert, who probably was widowed before Sarah's marriage in 1843. Lemira and John Yates Snead moved to north Texas prior to the start of the Civil War. They're both buried in Paris, Texas. Does anybody know anything else about Lemira and her family? Other siblings or more of her antecedents? Beverly missbev@theshop.net

Hello everyone, I'm part of a group of people, researching Clarks and all their related families. We've constructed 6 webpages giving (Direct Line Descendancy's) of the lines from which some of us descend and/or are researching. It's at http://members.tripod.com/ClarkCousins/ (Note: Many of us are cousins who have found each other online while researching Clarks.) If you're researching a Clark line, please drop by and see if we have any information on your Clark line. You might even be another cousin. If you only have one Clark in your family, you might want to drop by and try to find out if you're related to any of us. Keep in mind these are not complete charts, they contain only the basic direct line descendancy of that Clark researcher. If you feel you may have a connection to any of the lines, please contact us at clarkgenealogy@iname.com If your Clark line isn't there already, you can contribute your own Clark line for posting, if you like. It might help you find new family info or maybe even meet a cousin you never knew you had. Dear lists, Sorry for the delay and interruption of our project to identify early HARVEY marriages county-by-county in Virginia. My husband had a small stroke and after years of fighting back problems, is now finding that a wheelchair has liberated him from a great deal of pain and energy spent trying to get around on a cane or crutches. So it has been a learning experience for the last few weeks as we negotiate doors, steps, etc. We were last working on Bedford Co. HARVEY Marriages. I had been looking around the web and also received a couple of messages that might apply to these individuals. I'll repeat the current list first and then share that information to see if anyone can comment or clarify their identities. BEDFORD CO, VA HARVEY marriages 1. BENJAMIN MORLAND & KEZIAH HARVEY; Sep. 6, 1794; Evan Harvey, Surety; Married by James Turner, Sept. 8, 1794 - source, Bedford Co. Marriage Bonds. QUESTION: Who was Evan Harvey- father?, brother? Who was Benjamin Morland? 2. JOHN M. HARVEY & MARY C. MITCHELL; Mar. 29, 1825; Hugh Meenan, Surety; Married by Wm. S. Reid, March 30, 1825. - source, Bedford Co. Marriage Bonds. ***#2. (John M. Harvey, son of Col. Matthew Harvey of Botetourt Co; Mary Charlotte Mitchell, dau. of Charles M. Mitchell of Richmond - source, Henley Marriage & Obit Database @Library of Virginia Web site.) 3. MATTHEW HARVEY & SALLY P. JONES, 17 Mar 1837; dt Capt. William R.; Caleb Ewing, Surety - source, Bedford Co. Marriage Bonds. ***#3 (Sally, dau. of Captain William R. Jones, thanks to the marriage bond) QUESTION: Matthew Harvey, son of ?,. what information is available on Capt. William R. Jones? A connection to Caleb Ewing? ----------- #1 From a query on the Bedford query page date March 30, 1999 from Rufus Harris states Benjamin Moreland/Keziah Harvey emiigrated to Hawkins Co, TN by 1805. It also says "The Moreland family has been connected to the Goose Creek Monthly Meeting in Bedford County, VA and after Tennessee moved on to Indiana and Iowa." #3 I did a small search on Capt. William R. Jones in the Bedford marriage bonds and came up with two other daughters. Eliza Ann Jones married IRA MAUPIN of Albemarle Nov. 17 1832 Mary L. Jones married CALEB EWING Dec. 17 1833. The Mary Jones/Caleb Ewing marriage is the crucial one. Since he provided the bond for the marriage we're looking for, Sally is probably Mary's sister. Also I found a listing for WILLIAM JONES and FANNY VAUGHN Oct 22 1792. Is this the same William, son of the Rev. soldier? This would put his children of marriagable age during this time. Can anyone else supply any other information before we go on to another county? Sandra dewey_nolan@msn.com
