    1. [VABEDFOR-L] Aliff family
    2. Mary Lucado
    3. Hello, I've been trying to put together several of the "lost" pieces to the Aliff family puzzle. I was wondering if anyone knew/had info on the following people: 1. Powhatan Samuel Aliff, b. 1852, m (1) Laura Susan Dent, 28 May 1877 in Roanoke Co., m (2) Louella Dillon July 28, 1897 in Roanoke City. He lists parents as John A. and Mary A. Aliff and he was born in Bedford. 2. Perry Aliff, b. 1837 Franklin Co. m (2) Susan Guthrie April 29, 1865 in Floyd Co. I believe he is the son of Jonas L. Aliff and Ann Hays. He was listed as a widower on his marriage license to Susan. Does anyone know his first wife's name? 3. Freeborn Alexander Aliff, b. 1860 Roanoke Co. m (2) Mary Reynolds Dec. 27, 1892 in Roanoke City. He was listed as a widower on his marriage license to Mary. Does anyone know his first wife's name? Also he lists parents P. and J. Aliff. Could this be Perry Aliff and his first wife??? 4. Alexander B(rady) Thomas Aliff, b. late 1820s Bedford Co. m. Clementine (aka Tiney/Tina) by 1850. Alexander and Clementine had over a dozen children. I can not locate a marriage license for the couple nor any clue to his or her parents. I have a good bit of info on the Aliffs of Bedford, Botetourt, Roanoke, Floyd, Franklin and Montgomery Co. VA (and some on the WV Aliffs). If anyone wants any additional info or has Aliffs lines they are willing to share, please let me know. I have 500+ names in the Aliff line from Thomas Ayloffe of England, who came to VA in 1741. Thanks, Mary

    1. [VABEDFOR-L] BROWNS in bedford County.
    2. Brown, Tracy
    3. Freddy, et. al. - Saw your note on VABEDFORD-L. Thanks for reposting from BROWN-L. Regarding: >> I'm also not sure who the Joseph, Zachariah and Jesse Brown are, listed next to her. >> They also seem to sort of vanish from Bedford County." Joseph, of course, died in 1795. Most of his children moved to Cumberland and Clinton Counties in Ky. His son, Hezekiah, moved to Botetourt County first, then on to Clinton Co., Ky around 1839. Jesse and Dicey Brown sold their land in bedford in 1797 - 175 A. south side of Beaverdam Creek. Dicey is (apparently) Dicey Payne, dau. of Joseph Payne (From Jo Thiessen) Joseph brown's apparent father-in-law, Peter Dent, came from Maryland through Amherst County, Va. -- Tracy Brown -----Original Message----- From: Freddy Brown [mailto:freddyb@tnpride.com] Sent: Friday, July 09, 1999 12:18 PM To: VABEDFOR-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [VABEDFOR-L] RE: [BROWN-L] SAMUEL BROWN <and other Bedford County Browns> In response to Kibby and Barbara, I saw your response to Kibby's query and would like to respond. I have been looking at these Browns for some time for a possible conneciton to my Edith Brown of Bedford County. There are some descendants of Old Henry that came to Bedford County, that I need in order to prove or disprove a connection. My Edith was apparently married to a Brown of Bedford County: 1789 - She first appears in Bedford Co., Va. - no titheables over 21. She is listed after Joseph, Zachariah and Jesse Brown. She is listed through 1794. 1794 - listed as Edith Brown, no titheables over 21. Not listed after 1794. 1794 - July 19 Bond dated for marriageto John Grant by Rev. John Ayers, a Methodist minister. (Bedford PRO 1:229) John Grant and Edith Brown/Grant left the Beaverdam Creek area of Bedford County about 1798 and moved to Montgomery County and left there about 1804 for Russell County. Their descendants left there in 1807/8 for Sumner County, Tn. I suspect that Edith and John died in Russell Co., Va. Back to Edith. I am looking for a Brown that lived (apparently) in Bedford County and should be listed somehow prior to 1789, which is the date that Edith shows up on the property taxes as the head of household. I'm also not sure who the Joseph, Zachariah and Jesse Brown are, listed next to her. They also seem to sort of vanish from Bedford County. If you have any info on them, I would appreciate it. I think they were probably related some way to her husband. Back to Old Henry's descendants. Is there any way we could share lists of his descendants for about 4 generation of him? I noticed that I have some differences from your listings for him. For example: I have Daniel S. and David as children of his 2nd wife, Esther. I don't have any descendants of David or Robert, or who David married. Could it be my Edith? I would love to hear from others concerning this family, especially the descendnats that made it to Bedford County. I have ordered a copy of the new-republished book "Our Kin" hoping that it might clear up some of my data on this family. If I might regress a little to Beaverdam Creek area, a study of the early deeds point to a John Brown and possibly a William Brown living in that area prior to 1789. Thanks. 3. Hi Cuzins, Over the past few days my web site AND the Burnett page has been broken along with several others. I just received an email from GeoCities/Yahoo and they stated that the commands that were hard carded in the HTML by GeoCities had to be remove in order for the page to be found. GRRRRRR! Anyway, to make a long story short, if you are having this problem with your web site in GeoCities, go to the Editor and remove all the junk at the top above your <html> command and save it. WORDS OF ADVISE: If you have a web site anywhere, ensure that you save each and every page to a floppy disk!!!! On my Burnett page when I looked, 99% of it was GONE! The only thing that showed up was the background. I was lucky in that I had saved it to a floppy. If you are new to the list, come visit. If you haven't been there in a while, come on back. New stuff being added soon. Web site is at, http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/3348/ Stay a while, kick your shoes off and look at the rest of my site too if you will.
