    1. [VABEDFOR-L] First International HURT Family Reunion
    2. Steve Jenkins
    3. The first International Hurt Family Reunion will be held this fall on October 15,16,17, 1999. Tentative site will be the Ramada Hotel on Oddfellows Road in Lynchburg, Virginia. Any descendant of a HURT is welcome to attend. Information and reservations may be made with Karen Smith at kasmith@hurt.org. Events will include the documentation of the descendants of William Hurt (~1630 - 1704) who arrived in Virginia in 1650, including updates on the research of Oscar Hurt's "The Early Hurts of Virginia". Numerous descendants of Wm. Hurt migrated to Bedford County and Southside before the Revolution, and then on to North Carolina, Kentucky, Tennesse, Georgia, Alabama, Missourri and Indiana before the Civil War. There will also be a speaker from the Bedford County Historical Society on the history of Bedford County. Family photos and historical Hurt documents will be digitized and available at cost on CD-ROM after the meeting. A family association will be formed and officers will be elected. A family newsletter will be initiated. Hurts from five states have already confirmed their interest, and Charles Hurt of Casterne Hall, Oxfordshire, England, the current owner of the historic family seat, will try to attend and bring the lineage of "the Hurts who stayed behind."
