Bedford became a county around the period of the French and Indian Wars. It could have been a result of the wars that migration was possible or "safer" due to the British control of that land from the Indians. And a move usually involved a group of friends and relatives or even a community. All of this was occurring during the time period you mentioned. Just a thought, Julie Smith

I'm researching the FREEMAN'S and PARKER'S in an effort to find my roots on both sides. The info I have is as follows. My William Freeman is a son of John Freeman of Bedford Co. VA Sarah Parker was born (ABT 1779) in Pittsylvaina, VA Wm. FREEMAN married 26 Oct1798 Sally Parker; Bedford, VA. The Will of Benjamin White, 15 Jan1811, prob, 21 Sept 1818 (Pittsylvaina Deeds & Will Bk. 11, pp 495-496) wife: Rebecca White. In Benjamin White¹s Will he names children of Rebecca White as follows: Thomas Zachery Sally Parker wife of John Parker Rachel Bennett wife of Wm. Bennett(dec¹d) Molly Pierce wife of John Pierce Elizabeth Kizzee wife of Kizzee(Keesee (corrected sp)) others mentioned in his Will are: John Pierce son of John Pierce Zadock Pierce George Adams Some Question that run around in my head are as follows: -Are the Sally Parker and John Parker mentioned in this Will the same Parker family to our Sally Parker who married William FREEMAN? Could her maiden name have been Sarah Zachery? -Could have this Sally Parker and John Parker have had a child named Sarah Parker that married our Wm. FREEMAN (1798)? Hello. Is there anyone out there researching the WATSON family of Bedford County Virginia that may have a photo copy of Johnson Watson's Will? I find it is listed in "Bedford County Virginia Will Book #2-1787-1803.(page 310)I was able to find this much in a nearby small Genealogy library. Johnson Watson b.abt.1750 Bedford Co.VA. d. Some time ago, I purchased a copy from Higginson for $54 and it turned out to be an 8.5x11 photo copy of the 6x9 original. The pages were bigger, but the text was only 6x9 and the images were terrible. Later I found C.J. Carrier and ordered one from him for $40 plus $3 shipping. The Carrier book is a brand new reprint and just beautiful, especially the images. I have since ordered "Hopkins of Virginia and Related Families," and again, it is beautiful. Recently, I managed to get enough interest so that Mr. Carrier would reprint "Our Kin." It should be shipping soon. I am sure it will be of the same high quality. Good luck to you! J. There seems to have been a migration of families who lived in Amelia County, Virginia to Bedford County, Virginia in the mid- to late 1700's. I am descended from Motleys, Meadors, and Comptons who left Amelia and went to Bedford. Now some of you have said that some Fosters did the same. (My grandmother's parents were Motley and Foster of Bedford). Does anyone know why this migration occurred? Wanda in Virginia.
