Does anyone on this list have the Index for the 4 volume set of books entitled "Some Prominent Virginia Families" by Louise P. du Bellet?? Thank you, Fern
Hey Bob, Nice to see that you are still around. I e-mailed Freddie about a week ago to ask where you were and he said that he hadn't heard from you in quite a while. So, I glad that things are alright with you. You were missed. Hi everyone I think we have decided that the Jesse Cop indexed on the Ancestry version is actually Jesse Coffee. Jesse "Cop" only appears on that one year, but Jesse Coffee has a long history in Bedford Co. The confusing writing of p for ss made me think that the f might really be for pp. Just wishful thinking on my part! Thanks to all for their suggestions. Karen Lee
I mailed the money for the book but as of today I have not received it. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of you who wrote stories for The Patrick County Heritage Book Volume II. It has been a huge success. We strived very hard to really go for quality and content this time, and it shows. The book is beautifully done. I also want to thank my wonderful committee and their families for all their hard work and support. They are the back bone of any project like this, working many tireless hours with much dedication and devotion towards making every story and picture look its best. HATS OFF TO YOU! And, building on Lee Anders connection with an unknown cousin.....one of the most moving experiences about our book that I was made aware of just a week ago, an elderly lady here in Patrick County who is bedridden, took our book and laid in bed and read the book to her daughter and shared wonderful stories and memories of her life as well. I was so moved by this call, I nearly found myself crying because it really touched my heart. We'd like to hear from some of you....what did you think of our book, and how did it impact your life? Anymore family connections out there? I know of one other than Lee's that occurred, as I was talking with a lady in Patrick County yesterday who discovered two cousins both of whom have already come to visit and they live in other states. Just wanted to let everyone know that we now have our second shipment of The Patrick County Heritage Book Volume II. We remarkably sold completely out of our first shipment on the Heritage Book Pickup Day and had to reorder. We are also still accepting names and addresses for the reorder of Patrick County Heritage Book Volume I which is growing by leaps and bounds. We also still have about 50 copies of the Patrick County WWII Pictorial Book still available. For more information, please e-mail [email protected] Alpha Hiatt, Chairman __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Barbara I do not have any photos but I am related to Martha Jane Loyd, who married Jessie Turner Overstreet. Robert Howard Overstreet died Dec 15 1974 in Roanoke County. He was my 3rd cousin, 4 times removed, according to Family Tree Maker. By any chance, do you know anything about William R. Franklin listed as 2 years old and a boarder in Martha and Jessie's home in 1880 census? I am trying to determine if this William is the same one called Reeves Franklin who married Lydia Ann Loyd, d/o Ed Loyd and Ginny Kefauver Loyd. Blessings to you, Florence Cox

Karen, I have transcribed probably over a hundred wills and personal letters dating back to and before the 1820's. This double s as in Jesse does look like a p. Drove me crazy when I first encountered it in a will until I realized what it was. This phenomenon only appears when the word has a "ss" in the spelling. So yes this is probably your Jesse. Hope this helps, Fern ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 29, 2006 7:18 PM Subject: [VABEDFOR] Jesse Cop on the 1820 census > Would someone with access to the 1820 census please do a look-up for me? > I > use the library edition of Ancestry, and I am having trouble reading > this. > The search shows that Jesse Cop is on page 9. Would someone with access to the 1820 census please do a look-up for me? I use the library edition of Ancestry, and I am having trouble reading this. The search shows that Jesse Cop is on page 9. On page 9 at the very top of the page is what appears to be Jepee Cofes, but it is very faded. Was if common for the Bedford Co. census taker to use "p" to stand for "ss" and "f" for "pp"? I have only seen "f" used to stand for "ss" before. Hoping that a second pair of eyes will clarify this for me. Thanks so much for your help. Karen Lee
I really don't have any idea, you can go to the Bedford Co. Webpage and look up cemeteries and see a list of people who are there. 35 years ago I mowed the yard there but I really didn't look at the stones other that family. Danny Foster
