Millstone Tea Room is where I grew up. My grandparents, Nellie & Charlie OVERSTREET built the "Tea Room" in 1939. My mom & dad , Agnes & Landon OVERSTREET bought it in 1954 from them and kept it up until the late 60's-early 70's. It had a dining room and we served "short orders"(that's where I learned to cook), there was a dance floor with a Wurlitzer...sometimes even had "live" music, had a small grocery store, was a gas station, we sold beer on tap and we lived upstairs over all this! What an experience it was growing up there! Music and dancing every Friday and Saturday nights. If anyone remembers the "Tea Room" and wouldn't mind sharing your memories from there, I sure would enjoy hearing about it. The "Tea Room" was about 10 miles out of town on 122 North and just about a mile away from the Bedford County Lake. Everyone from near & far would come to the lake during the summer (that's where I had my first paid job-working the concession stand & boat house rentals). This was way before Smith Mountain Lake! The "Tea Room" is now a lovely restuarant. Oh, what fun it is to remember times gone by! Hi Sally: Well I have direct kinship to the Kennedy's (Canady's) of Bedford County, Virginia. My Great Great Grandmother was Mary Kennedy who married Jessie E. Markham in Bedford County and moved to Jennings Creek in Botetourt County in the late 1830's. As far as the Stratton's go, my only connection there is that My Great Uncle George J. Markham's wife was Mary Stratton from Lynchburg, Va. Thank you for the compliment on my Web Page, I am glad that you liked it. I have many relatives that are still in Bedford County through the Kennedy's. Keep in touch, Tommy Thomas A. The Bedford Co. Will of Henry Stratton was signed Nov. 19, 1799; probate & recording was Dec. 23, 1799. Wife Sarah; Sons William, John, Thomas, Henry, Archibald; Daughters Judith Davis, Mary Lee, Betty Smith, Anna Cannady, Jeanny Leftwich, Sally Winfrey, Martha dec'd. Execs: wife Sarah, Thomas Leftwich, John Stratton. source: [Bedford Co. Virginia Will Book 2, p. 263, according to Ann Chilton,"Bedford County Virginia Will Book 1, 1759- 1787, Will Book 2, 1787-1803" published 1988, p. 86] You could probably order a copy of the recorded will from the Bedford Circuit Court. Hi, Tommy...... Your home page and thereafter are great! Thanks for sharing....... I noticed you had both Kennedy and Stratton names in your history.....just wondering if you have any other info on these families? I'm a desc. of James Kasey and Mary Canaday (Kennedy) dau. of William. We think her mom was Anna Stratton, but we're not sure (can't prove it, anyway). Of Bedford and Botetourt Counties, of course......mid to late 1700s. So, just thought I'd ask... Sally Kasey E.

Note there is a book titled "The Bedford Boys" by Alex Kershaw, Da Capo Press. Excellent reading.... contains Full Index, Notes, Interviews with Bedford Residents and Soldiers.... B&W Pictures. Guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes while reading. Another great book that I bought at the D-Day Memorial is called "Bedford Goes to War," "The Heroic Story of a Small Virginia Community in World War II," by James W. Morrison. It has the same list as "The Bedford Boys," (which I also own), but has also has others from the county who contributed to the War, not just Army, but Navy, too. There are bios in the back of some of the people involved, and lots of added information. It talks about the deprivations that the home folk went through, rationing, letters home, etc. Very good book. Kathy
