    1. [VABEDFOR] MAERCKEL/MARCKLE/MARKLE
    2. Marjorie Newton
    3. Charles MARKLE, Jr. was born March 18, 1783 in Virginia. John Markle was born November 25, 1784 in Stauton, Augusta County, later Liberty, later Bedford, Virginia. Their parents were Charles, formerly known as Carl Maerckel, and Tabitha Whitney Markle. Tabitha died June 14, 1818 in Liberty, Bedford County. The Markle family Bible, last known to be in the possession of the EARLY family, states she was a member of the Presbyterian Church for more than 30 years. In 1800, Charles MARKLE bought a 570 acre tract of land from Henry Duke SHERMAN which adjoined the FREDERICK land on the north. Over the next 20 years the property was subdivided. This is from the history of THAXTON. Charles MARCKLE is on the 1800 Bedford County Tax List. Charles MARCKLE is on the 1810 Bedford County Census. John MARKLE married Harriet BRUER on December 5, 1811 in the town of Liberty, Bedford County by Reverend James TURNER. Harriet's parents were Richard and Ann "Nancy" Blackwell BRUER married in Westmoreland County. On September 28, 1813, at the first meeting of Liberty Lodge No 95, both Charles and John MARCKLE are in attendance. Charles MARKLE, Sr. served in the Revolutionary War as a Captain under the command of Col Armand of the US Army and was granted land which the family moved to Ralls County Missouri to claim by 1820. At the time of Charles MARKLE, Sr. death in Ralls County in 1826, his estate still showed him with property in Bedford County. I hope I haven't bored you to death by this time - what I would like to know is if the burial place of Tabitha could be found. Is it possible to locate the land on which they lived? Does anyone know where the family Bible is now or does anyone know the EARLY family who had it in their possession? Any additional information on the time that the family was living in Staunton/Liberty/Thaxton/Bedford would be greatly appreciated. 2. Sherrie Boone
    3. Hi Don, I have a whole Bedford gang that came down from Frederick Co MD, Robert Lazenby, Flayl Paine, John Nichols, John Field, Henry Musgrove, & James Ayres. Robert Harper also came with that group, he was nephew and only heir of the Robert Harper who operated Harper's Ferry on the Potomac. They all had Rev war involvement. James Ayres of Bedford, (wife Hannah) was b. in MD June 1, 1725, he was orphaned at age 5 and bound to Allen & Mary Lock. He was son of James & Dinah Box Ayres. Dinah is named in her father Thomas Box's will dtd "1707-8/Feb/8, source is "State of Maryland, Hall of Records, Request #09640". Linard Ayres of Bedford was very interested in this line. (He's the original cemetary stomper). He descended from Hannah Ayres, dt of James Jr (the minister). Hannah had a number of bastard children one of whom (likely the eldest by dates) was fathered by David Thompson. Guess Linard never found that info.... Hannah Ayres was second wife of John Mitchell, Jr, son of John & Ann. John, Jr m. 1st Frances Burgess. By the notes I have from Linard's file it looks like the Box line is established as far back as 1622. I have DAR sisters who have used this line to join Colonial Dames. I can give you numbers for those folks.
