Regimental book a Joseph McKinney--a Private in Company B . It states he is illiterate and enlisted in 9/1/63, he transfered from the 25th VA. Infy. He is llisted on the company clothing list on 3/31/64 he was captured at Spotsyvania 5/12/64. Sent to Point Lookout prison from Bell Plain 5/18/64. Transfered to Elmira prison 7/30/64. Exchanged on 3/2/65. Admitted to Howard's Grove hospital in Richmond 3/7/ 65. DOD smallpox 3/21/65. The 44th drew men from Augusta Co.and surrounding area.There also were Mckennys in the 25th VA. --note the difference in spelling--don't rule them out as a misspelled name back then lost us many a ancestor--LISTED WERE DAVID, JAMES AND ROBERT who was wounded at ANDERSONVILLE.Then a Robert McKenney who enlisted on May 1861, captured at Rapidan in 1864 and held at Elmira Prison.
