George Frank Carroll was born and wedded in Augusta Co. Va. His wife was a native of that county also. He was born June 24th 1842, a son of Fleming and Maragret Welch Carroll and he married Elizabeth Jane, a daughter of Fredrick and Mary Runkle Wiseman. Their 1st child was Emma Jane who died March 22, 1876. In their home were six, John Asby, Cora Lee, Minnie Belle, Viola May, Mary Clare, Jesse James. The father of Mr. Carroll (Fleming) died in the service of his country, falling on the field of Chancellorsville May, 3, 1863. His Mother died at about 42 yrs old. George Frank served in the same army from begining to end of the war. Was wounded twice, at Slaughter Mountain and Gettysburg. He was taken prisioner in the first named battle and on his return from imprisonment was retaken at Massy's Mills.
