    1. Re: [VAAUGUST] Augusta County Research
    2. I'm searching for the Dooley/Duley families of McGaheysville from the early 1730s and trying to find them prior to that time. I know there was a Henry, Moses, and Thomas in Augusta and Orange Counties in the early 1700s. I have Chalkey and many other available books, but want to find the actual documents/or films of them if any still exist. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Joy

    3. Joy, due go to Chalkley before you go. The Library does have a reading room, or at least did in 1789 when I went. My trip would have been so much more fruitful if I had gleaned all the info from Chalkley I could before I went. I would have known which deeds I wanted and would have known to go way beyond the time period I was interested in to find out what happened to land that wasn't sold during that period. In going through Chalkley use your "find on page" feature to quickly scan entire sections. 3 or 4 hours of prep will make a big difference in what you will get out of your trip. Don't neglect the court documents when you go. Sometimes there are gems. I believe the library in Staunton has more info and books that would be helpful. Sue in Newport
