I am researching Hans Ulrich Vollenweider. One source says his father died in Kappel, Switzerland. Ulrich was found on the passenger list of the Anne & Elizabeth in 1743 heading toward Pennsylvania. I have found a copy of his will in Augusta County Will Book 10 dated 25 February 1804. I am wondering if anyone has done a transcript of this will. I'm finding it very difficult to read. I descend from Ulrich's son Henry. I have extensive research on Henry's son John and his brother Henry who moved to Cedar County, Iowa. Any information would be helpful. Pat
Hi Pat, I am interested in exchanging Vollenweider information with you. My research concerns a Jacob Goodpasture who died in Augusta County in 1766. There is much speculation (not to mention a fake ancestry on the internet) to the effect that Jacob's surname might really have been Vollenweider and that he may have translated his German name into English to obtain the surname Goodpasture. I am trying to collect all the Vollenweider (various spellings) information that I can find from Augusta County and from their prior residences in an effort to either prove or disprove this possible connection. It is highly probable that Jacob Goodpasture was my 5gr-grandfather. He helped my 4gr-grandfather John Runyon obtain land in Augusta County in 1753. So far, I can find no other person in America, in that time frame, named Goodpasture.
