Anita, Have you invesgated the possibility of Bath, Rockingham or Greenbrier when it was still part of Virginia? I have an |Andrew McClung who married Jane Dean 2 December 1802 in Bath County. Jane was the daughter of John Dean who died in 1811. He lived on the same property, but the taxes, I believe, jumped around between Greenbrier and Bath. Just a thought. Children of John Dean and Agness McClenachen Wilson Margaret b 1760 m Wm Crawford 1788 Sarah m Wm Bourland, son of James Bourland & Sarah Dean Alice m John Kincaid Nancy m James Anderson, moved to Champagne Co., OH William M b. 1770 m Sarah McClung , dau of Samuel McClung and Rebecca Bourland Elizabeth m James Kincaid Sarah m James Venable Jane m Andrew McClung 1802 Augusta Co: Crawford vs Crawford Bill 1821 by Wm Bell and Margaret Crawford, exec of James Crwford who died in Augusta, testate. Will dated 1798, leaving 6 children. four sons and two daughter and one daughter was born after his death. His son George died unmarried and infant. William died unmarried. Sarah m Charles McClung; Elizabeth married Samuel McClung; Polly, the posthumous daughter, married John Allen. Sarah and Polly are both dead. In January, 1819, John Crawford married oratrix Margaret, who is daughter of William Bell, orator. John's mother, Mary lived a time with her daughter Elizabeth in Greenbrier. John died 24th Feb., testate, but will has not been proved. Greenbrier deeds In 1793 Samuel & Charles McClung were granted 1,000a on Meadow River (the head is west of Lewisburg, it flows into the Gauley River, Muddy Creek is between its head and Lewisburg, Samuel also had land on Muddy Creek) Sept 25. 1805 Sam McClung & Rebecca 234a to James McClung Jr. in Walkers Meadow, part of 1000a pat by Sam McClung in 1790 adj. Charles McClung witnesses: Martin Shirey, Anthony Bowen & Alex Boggs. (note this says Sam's wife was Rebecca not Elizabeth, so not the one above) One Charles McClung dies in 1804-1805. His appraisement and sale were in Feb. of 1805. Too bad his will doesn't show up in Shuck's Greenbrier Coounty Virginia Deeds & Will 1750-1833. Andrew McClung held land on Sinking Creek which is NW of Lewisburg ( the land was near Huggart, which is a town between Williamsburg and Crawley, 2 towns that do show up in Atlases) James Kincaid and his wife Elizabeth Dean also held land near Huggart.
