    2. Jim, I was afraid of that. I know they were not required to maintain records until the 1850s, just thought that perhaps some of the counties did before. What is amazing is that you can find records for WV prior to statehood. I know our court house have a book of marriages dating back to 1838. Strange how the counties that would later become WV have records prior to 1853. Thanks, Anita McClung

    3. Marriage Records were kept in Virginia before the 18th century.
