    1. AGNES MCCLENACHAN/JOHN WILSON/John DEAN

    3. There seems to be much confusion over this Agnes. If you go to Chalkley's Chronicles of the Scotch-Irish Settlement in Virginia l(court records of Augusta County) and follow through on Agnes McClenachan, Agnes Wilson, John Wilson, Agnes Dean, it help to clear up the matter. Chalkley's can be found online or in hardback in a lot of libraries. We know that Agnes was married to John Wilson because she is mentioned several places as the wife of John Wilson. We know she is the daughter of Robert McClenachan because she is mentioned in his will as Agnes Dean. We know she was married to John Wilson because she is referred to in his will. We know she is the wife of John Dean because she is mentioned in his will. We know that John Wilson had a daughter, Sarah, who married John Kinkade because she and her husband are both involved in the sale of a piece of property to Brownless along with Alice Dean. I believe all of this circumstantial evidence proves that Agnes is the daughter of Robert McClenachan and the wife of both John Wilson and John Dean. I hope this clears up the problems with Agnes McClenachan Wilson Dean. I descend from her daughter, Elizabeth Dean who married James Kincaid. Pat I do not know of another child of John Wilson's. I do not have Thomas Poage in my database, but he also can be found in Chalkley's.

    3. Pat, those Chonicles are fantastic! Thanks so much for pointing them out. I can see where my confusion is. I looked at my sources again,( including the Descendants of Robert and John Poague) and two places say that Thomas Poage, Robert Poage's youngest and I think the only one born in Virginia, married Agnes McClanahan but two other sources say he married Mary (Polly) McClanahan. There was an Agnes and a Mary in almost every generation for a while and I think now the sources that say Thomas married Mary McClanahan are correct. Thank you so much for your help on this.
