Dear List: Does anyone know a reference which shows the Oaths of Allegiance taken by Augusta County peoples or for Virginians in general, by order of the Continental Congress in early 1776? Every free man over 21 was required to declare himself for or agin the new colonies in the spring of 1776. Loyalists were to be identified and disarmed, and though it wasn't expressed in the articles, harassed, hounded and encouraged to remove from the area. Constance
