I had not found that information or heard that before. I am always eager to learn more about my ancestor James Patton. I have my opinion also as to what could have happened if there was a conflict you may find interesting. As you know and mentioned the Lewis family was kin to Patton. Pattons wife Mary was a Osborne and she had sister Margaret who married the Rev. John Thompson who wanted to pastor the Tinkling Springs Meeting House. Rev. John Thompson was turned down from Donegal, Ireland and had to go elsewhere. William Thompson Sr, who I believe is brother to Rev. John Thompson gave the land for the Tinkling Springs Church to be built. This William Thompson had a son William Thompson Jr, who married Mary Patton the daughter of Col. James Patton and Mary Osborne. Wm and Mary Thompson is my line. So you can see there was kinship and pull as to who they wanted for their pastor. So we have the Pattons, Prestons, Buchanans, Lewises and Breckenridges attending and worshiping there at Tinkling Springs Presbyterian Church. William Preston was Patton's nephew. On page 31 and page 11 of Lillian Kennerly Craigs book what source did she give on the conflict? Also I have not found any documentation that Benjamin Borden or Michael Woods were related to Patton, do you know where that information came from. I know there were some researchers who had thought that Mary Osborne was Mary Borden, but more evidence and good sources suggest otherwise. I will be looking forward to your reply and giving me the direction where to go for the Borden and Woods data. My James Kelly could be connected to the Woods you speak of. James was from Greenbrier Co, Va. He married Nancy Caperton. I have two Thompson lines, one Polly Thompson married John Caperton and also lived in the Augusta County area. She could have been kin to Alexander Thompson, this Thompson family is not as well documented as the other I spoke about. Thank you again for the interesting data about Patton and Rev John Craig.
