    2. John Robert Gray
    3. Hello Again: Thanks for sharing. I agree that there were at least 2 James Thompsons in the Greenbrier/Monroe Counties area and I do not think Captain James is my man for I have no evidence he attained that rank, unless it would have been in the War of 1812, but I have no record of such service. At one time, I thought Kitty Kincaid's son John Gray was my man, and others have thought so too. However, there was a query on RootsWeb on 9-30-02 that says this John Gray, b. ca 1795, died in 1838 in Illinois and was married to Nellie Hoxie ca 1820. My John Gray was b. 28 Jan 1784, several years before Kitty and her husband were married, and was in Union Co., OH by 1816 and married to Susannah Thompson. My John died in 1855 and is buried at Watkins, Millcreek Twp., Union Co., OH. I have an extensive genealogy I have built over the past several years on the Monroe Co., WVA Gray family. One branch (William) went to NC and are believed to have been Quaker down that way. Isaac of that branch came to Champaign Co., OH about the same time my John came to Union Co., OH - right next door to each other. Further, my John named his second oldest son James Isaac. First born son was named for his second wife's grandfather - Vincent Sherman. Therefore I believe it is the second son who was named for the Gray ancestor(s). Hence, I am looking for a James Gray, who may have a connection to the NC branch, or one of the other Isaac Gray's in southwestern VA/WV. If I can ever get a lead on my John's parents, I will travel to the area to see what I can find.
