You mention that you don't know which Reverend Brown performed the marriage. I can help you out with that one. The "Rev. John Brown" who performed the marriage in 1794 had to be the Presbyterian John Brown of New Providence. The other Rev. John Brown was my 4 Great Grandfather. Born Johannes Braun on July 21, 1771, near Vegesack, Germany, he didn't come to America until 1797, landing in Baltimore. He didn't begin the service of the congregations in Rockingham and Augusta County until October 1798. Though he preached in the valley at many, many churches and congregations for 50+ years, he couldn't have performed the McCauley-Carson marriage in 1794 as he simply wasn't even in America yet.
