    3. I'm sure we all appreciate that great info. I know I do. Just a quick note, though, concerning Augusta County and its formation. Augusta County was officially formed from Orange in 1745 when the first courts were held, not 1778. It was Rockingham County being formed from Augusta that was in 1778. Also, it was stated earlier that Elizabeth B. Miller was born "ca. 1757 Rockingham (Now Augusta CO., VA d. bef 1828 in KY.)". That's actually backwards. Since Rockingham was carved from Augusta, the area that Elizabeth was born in had to be Augusta County as Rockingham Co didn't exist yet in 1757. That area of 1757 Augusta Co. may have become Rockingham when R'ham formed in 1778. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm not aware of any part of Rockingham Co. going back under Augusta Co. after R'ham's formation in 1778. Hope that is at least a little helpful and not too meddling ... 3. Thanks Mike and Barb, The correction is appreciated. That's what I get for trying to pull these dates from memory at so late an hour. ;- } In any event, successful research in VA requires a detailed road map. (I should have had mine open.) One of the best tools in my arsenal is a breakdown of the county formations by G. Lee Hearl. It is posted on Washington County's GenWeb site. http://www.rootsweb.com/~vawashin/countyform.html A visit to Lee's website offers many hours of enjoyable and enlightening reading. http://hearlshill.freeservers.com/index.html > I'm sure we all appreciate that great info.
