Does anyone have the a phone number to the Augusta Co. courthouse that I can use to talk to a clerk with knowledge of land records dating to 1743? The USGENWEB county site says to send a stamped/addressed envelope and they will respond. I'd rather talk to someone directly. A name of an experienced clerk would be appreciated. Does anyone know where the records for Augusta are from it's formation in 1738 until they had their own courthouse in 1745? I know Augusta formed from Orange in 1738 and there are supposed to be records from Augusta in Orange for this time period. I have reviewed the microfilm index for Orange and the names I'm looking for are not listed. BODKIN CARLILE ESTILL Knowing that Augusta would need their own copies of Orange records from 1738-1745 did Orange keep separate books that were supposed to be sent to Augusta?
