NSDAR is in no position criticize any genealogical data. ************** As a DAR registrar, I was saddened the read the above. I am sure this person has no idea how hard we work with prospective members to get their paperwork in order and we are all volunteers. We registrar's may go over an application along with the supporting documents a min. of 3 times (my experience and this is rare) to 8 or 9 times before it is sent to national for approval. We spend hours and hours with the prospective members reading and re-reading the documentation and many, many times is it handwritten and is very old. Terrible on the eyes. Sadly, some prospective members, we have to tell that they haven't proved this or that generation and we need more documentation to prove this or that link and some get very, very angry at us personally and at DAR. Just because a prospective member has family folk lore that their ancestor served does not make it true. Always remember, the prospective member is the one responsible for the proofs, the registrar is responsible for double checking them, national has the last word as to if the proofs are right or not. I have NEVER heard of any registrar in a membership drive submitting bad proofs to get more members. I had to prove mine honestly and anyone that applies to my chapter will have to do the same. Thanks for letting me vent!! Hallie ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.
