    3. My family was in DC a few weeks ago on vacation. We got a hotel in Alexandria and rode the Metro in every day. It is easy, clean, & safe. I did not think it was expensive. The fares range by distance and time of day, but it is much cheaper than parking. We found it very easy to negotiate even with 3 small children. You can get off the Metro at one of the stops near the White House, and you will only have a few blocks to walk to DAR. You can get more Metro information at www.wmata.com. My daughter used to live there and every time I was in DC to visit, I would spend at least a half if not a full day at the DAR Library. She lived in Silver Spring MD and I took the metro from there a few times and also went to work with her and took the metro from Catholic University. It has been a few years since she moved to Atlanta, but my recollection is that it was a easy walk from the metro.
