I had to correct it. The right info was in an easily obtained will from the Ohio Co., WV Courthouse and on 2 deeds that clearly stated his wife's name as Anna Elizabeth, not Martha. No document ever gave her name as Martha. My patriot was in the 1830 census and his will was written in 1828. But, DAR said that he died in 1826. Every applicant thereafter had been copying the information from the previous person. DAR's record keeping is nothing to applaud. When on a membership drive, they'll accept just about anything. NSDAR is in no position criticize any genealogical data. Any book will have something left out. I wish all of my ancestors were in every book when they should be. They're not, but when I find out that they are, its thrilling. Someone will find a clue from the Chalkley book and I'm happy for them. I'm sure that those who took so much time to put it out there know that it wasn't going to solve everyone's genealogical riddle, but that it would help someone out in the web. I think this effort says a lot about their kindness. Since they book is out of print, be grateful that it's on the web now for some lucky person to find a clue. -Donna ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    3. Now that is an accurate statement. When doing one of my moms DAR supplementals I discovered 3 ancestors had joined on the wrong service record. There were 3 rev soldiers of the same name within 2 counties and they simply combined them into one person and joined. My correspondence with the DAR, with documentation took them a year to answer and they seemed uninterested in the corrections. The 3 ladies were eligible but just another guy of the same name. They do not rate high with me right now John -----Original Message----- From: vaaugust-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:vaaugust-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Tmollaun@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, April 25, 2007 8:37 PM To: vaaugust@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [VAAUGUST] Chalkley and nitpicking DAR's record keeping is nothing to applaud.
