Sue, Can you tell us where these can be accessed I mean the tax lists for Great and Little Calf Pasture areas. Thanks Ginny in WY -----Original Message----- From: Sue Liedtke <seleaml@actionnet.net> To: vaaugust@rootsweb.com Sent: Sun, 19 Aug 2007 8:18 am Subject: Re: [VAAUGUST] 1787 Tax List The tax list for 1777 for the Great and Little Calf Pasture areas is listed (with a few exceptions) according to residence. By comparing the listing to the original buyers of the Patton & Lewis tracts on the Great Calfpasture (noting land transfers prior to 1777) and by looking at other land holdings on these rivers, it can be seen that the enumorator started at the head of the Great Calf Pasture, moved downstream, went back and picked up a few he had missed then went on to the Little Calf Pasture. There are a few at the end of the list that are out of place but otherwise the one-one correspondance is striking. The copy of the 1777 tithe list is from "Magazine of Virginia Genealogy" Vol 40, No 4 November 2002 published by the Virginia Genealogical Society. I did post a comparison of the tithe list to the land record to the Kincaid list and may have copied to this list. Starting in August of 2002 I posted a rundown of land on the various greater Augusta Co. rivers to the Kincaid list. I know I sent the same information to this list sometime that fall. It may be a year or so later that I did the comparison with the tax list. I do not have time at this point to find the post and repost it but you might be able to search the archives and find it. All the "play" time I have is being devoted to an analysis of land holdings in Albemarle Co. (primarily in the Mechum River watershed). This in an effort to better understand Kincaid relationships in the region. I do not know if anyone on list has ordered the film from the LDS that contains the tax lists for Augusta Co. A Kincaid researcher did plow through the Bath, Botetourt and Greenbrier lists for Kincaids and mentioned that there was a film for Augusta but she didn't have the time to go through it. Information from those tithe lists has greatly increased our knowledge about Kincaids in those counties.
